VV310 loading
I've had several pounds of V310 for many years but never used it until now. I thought I would try it since I can still replace it, unlike WST or Bullseye. I loaded 3.8gr under a lead 185gr. and was less than impressed with all the smoke. I've always heard that V310 is clean, should that mean it is not smokey?? Maybe i'm used to the 9mm loads using WSF, it is clean and non smokey.
thanks for any opinions.

Re: VV310 loading
I dunno, robert84010.
One of my go to loads is 4.2 grains of Vihta Vuori N310 with the 185 grains Nosler. No smoke. No residue.
Perhaps it's....Lead = Lube = Smoke.

My thoughts also as being the lube on the lead bullets.

Re: VV310 loading
It's the lube I bet.
I use VV N310 with Zero swaged 200 grn LSWC & 185 grn LSWCHP. Very clean.
It smokes a little, not much, not more than any other powder I have used with them.
For plinking rounds I use other powders and other lead bullets and notice that smoke appears to depend more on
the bullet lube that the powder. Some lubes just tend to be more smokey IMHO.

Re: VV310 loading
it must be the lube andI never noticed the smoke with other lead bullets, so it must be these Missouri bullets. crap, I have a good amount that I bought before the big jump in price about 8 years ago. i'll switch and verify.

Re: VV310 loading
I am seeing more bullseye available. Mostly in 1 lb containers. I have not, however seen any vv310 in the past 2 years.

Re: VV310 loading
Availability of powder seems to be regional. I have seen some bullseye some 231 more WST & 700X but scant unique (limiting this to bullseye loads)

load 310 just like bullseye, it has basically the same burn rate, its cleaner but its also temp sensitive, real hot back off a tenth, real cold bump up a tenth ot two

Re: VV310 loading
confirmed today it was the lube. Zero 185 have no smoke. i'll use what I have for practice. I guess I have no excuse to not practice, I have lots of smokey bullets.
Also tried 4.3gr. of 310 behind the Zero 185 JHP for the ball gun, shot right where I pointed the sights. sometimes that is not so good. it's been a while since I really tried to do this stuff.

Re: VV310 loading
If they are accurate I would still shoot them in a match. It won't hurt anything. I have shot next to guys that cast and lube there own and some of that lube is really smokey but the bullets are accurate.
