Elmers Multipurpose apray adhesive for targets?
I saw this at the local ACE Hardware for $5.99, half the price of the 3M stuff. Anyone used it for targets? Is it similar to 3M?

Staples are way cheaper and you use staples at matches. I like to keep consistent.

As far as I know staples are not mandated in the rules? We used spray adhesive in Hi Power at Perry sometimes for recenters.

High high power targets are glued not stapled to try to preserve the backer for as long as possible. The exception, of course being hospital targets which may wind up having centers stapled on due to time constraints. A number of people keep a can of spray in thei kits for high power.
But in a 2700 most of the cardboard will have a fist sized hole in the center at the end of the day and won't be reused for matches. In that case you glue the b6 or b8 to the cardboard and then staple on centers. It is faster and keeps things moving. Remember a bullseye match will fire 270 rounds in less time than an Across the Course high power match will fire 80.

We never replaced the repair center during our HP matches. We use black or tan pasters during the match and then put on a new repair center using wallpaper paste after the match is over. If needed sometimes we add a thin sheet of card stock over the center under the repair patch.
When I first started HP I was told all you have to know what to do is remember your elevations, be able to count/add and last but not least hang wallpaper.

We recenter when they need it usually after 40 rounds for larger matches and of course between yard lines. At walk and paste we put on a new center after each stage.

Re: Elmers Multipurpose apray adhesive for targets?
I'm interested in how this stuff works.
My experience with 3M 77 is just not good. Comes loose after a few days about half the time. Can't seem to predict what makes it stay stuck and what makes it act like a spray-on version of the Post-it (tm) Notes adhesive.
But if this stuff works as good as 3M 77 stuff, I'll be all over paying less for the same erratic performance. There are so many times when the convenience is totally worth it. As it is, I'm paying a premium price for convenience and unpredictable holding power.
Odd thing it, the stuff seems to work fine everywhere else except for keeping cardboard together.

In this day and age...how come no one has made a peel-and-stick center?

At least not in any official competition target configuration (in this decade*)?Wobbley wrote:In this day and age...how come no one has made a peel-and-stick center?
I would recommend not legal or at least practical for competitions, since small errors in placement go so far wrong so quickly. But yeah, a 9-10-X ring black sticky would be great. I'd still be happy to black paster the 8-ring.
*I did see some 50-foot sticky centers, pretty sure it was only the TF/RF version, in the 1980s and maybe into the 1990s...
