How to start a junior league Empty How to start a junior league

Post by Dockokol Mon Oct 19, 2015 12:44 pm

I started shooting in an NRA Junior rifle league some half century ago; moved to pistols when I was in the Service and now nearing retirement I would like to help organize and manage a junior pistol league, if there are such things.  I was hoping I could get some advice and counsel from people who are working with Juniors now.  I work for a state agency responsible for hunting and fishing, and we have hunter education programs for youth, and summer camps, but I am more interested in a junior league that would like to compete.

Any contacts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best to all

The CMP has a magazine dedicated to the grooming of junior shooters as well as some good coaching resources.

It is weighted for rifle, but pistol is part of their programming.

It would be great if the NRA would grow their support.  We are still working to get them on the right page.

You may want to consider using the NRA-approved indoor gallery pistol postal league (link attached) as part of your program.  They do have a junior pistol division.  It usually has in the neighborhood of 250 to 300 pistol competitors, but very few juniors.

Here's the link.  http://www.ierpa.org/.  There's a link to the entry form on the page.

Thanks for taking the effort to give some junior shooters the chance to shoot.
