Any CMP/EIC pistol shooters in KY
Hi, this is my first time posting on this forum. I've been reading it for a while and have enjoyed the info here. I'm a service pistol shooter in the Central KY area and was wondering if there are any others out there? I practice at an outdoor range in Frankfort and while there are some CMP-affiliated clubs, it seems there are very few EIC pistol matches in KY. The closest I'm seeing are 5-9 hours away by car. I've been to pistol SAFS and the National Matches several times and looking to get more active locally in between the Nationals.
Nice to meet you guys and thanks for your time!

Once a year here at the KY State Pistol Champs. http://www.southernindianarifleandpistolclub.com/
Have you checked out this website? https://ct.thecmp.org/app/v1/index.php?do=matchRegistrationListUpcoming
The Daniel Boone Gun Club near Evansville has a Regional pistol match once a year with an EIC match.

I believe that's the event we went to. It was in Chandler, and was the Ken Odom Memorial shoot. I shoot poorly, but had a great time. Next time I'll make it for lunch!
Any idea why Bluegrass Sportsman in willow stopped shooting them? Is the interest really that low?

Re: Any CMP/EIC pistol shooters in KY
Pete Gillis was the driving force for that range (a terrific one BTW) and bullseye pistol matches. There never was a huge amount of interest in bullseye pistol shooting in KY and few younger folks taking it up, so after Pete passed, so did the bullseye pistol matches. Bluegrass has such a wide assortment of ranges and activities that it is harder to get folks involved in the more challenging (and some consider boring) of the shooting sports. Bullseye pistol matches are still held regularly in the Cincinnati area. That shouldn't be too far from your digs. You can get upcoming dates for NRA matches here: http://www.ssusa.org/media/1534039/nov_ce_download.pdfgptuners wrote:I believe that's the event we went to. I'd love to get interest up back in Kentucky. I'm already trying to get my wife and friends involved.
I might have to take you up on the NRA bullseye events in Cincinnati.
Although I feel I should be focusing on one format... Do you have any issues switching back and forth between rules and stuff on NRA vs CMP?

I shoot a CMP legal gun for every match. The rules are similar enough that it won't change your process, except for the low ready for CMP .22

The formats aren't that different and the rules shouldn't hinder you. Many folks who aspire to make Distinguished Pistol Shot shoot their "ball" guns and ammo in NRA centerfire matches...I know I did.gptuners wrote:I'd love to get interest up back in Kentucky. Thanks BE Mike and Rob for the info. I'll check out Cincinnati. We did make it to the EIC match at Daniel Boone Gun Club and it was really good.
I didn't know him, but Pete Gillis's name sounds familiar. Probably from looking into Bluegrass Sportman's League years ago. I didn't know that he had passed or that they stopped doing bullseye there.
