Front sight DR legal?
Im looking at this revolver and wondering if it's front sight is DR legal? I know for sure it's been replaced with a taller one. Just curious if it falls under the factory category.

That front sight looks factory to me. A lot of 14's have taller front sights. You positive it has been changed? The 14 in the middle is factory.

Owner says it's been changed out. I have no proof other than his word.

It's a 14-2 with an under lug full length and has had the double action trigger smooth out and dropped to 7 pounds.

Tim, That seems strange. I don't think they made a full lug model 14 until the -5 series. I certainly could be wrong but I have never seen a full lug -2. The front sights on the -6 like mine are very tall. If you are being shown picture of this pistol you could ask to see the model #pictures.
My-6. Just took the picture with my phone so quality sucks.

Re: Front sight DR legal?
well, the 14-2 certainly had no underlug until the -5 and later.
It's clearly a pinned barrel which is interesting as I don't believe any of the underlug barrels were ever pinned. pinned barrels were discontinued in '82. the underlug barrels came out in 91 with the 14-5.
I'm thinking it's a 14-2 that has had a 14-5 barrel grafted on.

Thus 14 under lugs were first displayed at the PPC Nationals inJackson, Miss. A year later they became available for purchase. The revolvers had tall front sights because the majority of PPC shooters used neck hold sight pictures. So, those tall sights were absolutely an option and a legal sight.

It's a gun I was looking at as an option to purchase. What the reason be for a grafted barrel? Should I be concerned?

Perhaps the original was damaged.. I have replaced countless bulged barrels..everything is or was available at one time..

Re: Front sight DR legal?
Because there were so many variations available, there really isn't anyone who would know for sure if that sight is factory or not.
Because of that, I would say that you are safe to use that gun for DR
