Cardinal announcement
Good news,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am pleased to announce that the Cardinal Shooting Center and Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation have come to an agreement to host the 2016 and future Scholastic Action Pistol Program and the Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championships.
This multi-year deal gives high school and college age competitors a facility that can hold both pistol and shotgun national event programs concurrently.
This event, scheduled for the week of July 9th, 2016, is projected to have 2500 competitors.
Cardinal Shooting Center has increased the size of the pistol and Small bore range complex to accommodate the estimated 500 action pistol and 2000 shotgun competitors. This expansion will give Cardinal Shooting Center 15 action pistol pits, 300 bullseye pistol points, for a total of 450 firing points. 200 of those points will be capable of 100 meters.
Work on the building of the pistol complex was started yesterday.
The bullseye pistol ranges are now scheduled for the first shot at pistol range 1, which is a 50 point, 50 yard range with turning targets, September 1st with the next three ranges coming on line in one a month increments. We will be shooting at least two 2700 pistol matches in September of this year.
Pistol, and Small Bore Rifle competitors will now have a new range complex with all the amenities that they have been asking for. Covered firing points, with concrete, Gravel walkways, and concrete walls between ranges and new turning target system to be used with paper targets.
Stay tuned for more announcements of up coming events at the Cardinal Shooting Center.

Re: Cardinal announcement
I think this facility may become a mecca of shooting sports. They already hold the lion share of scatter-gun competition. Now pistol and small bore rifle. I can envision great things happening here. They have the location and the infrastructure to do great things for the sport. I am hoping to see NRA action pistol Bianchi Cup East and have John Bianchi himself shoot on the course of fire. American Steel Plate, Ruger Rimfire challenge, USPSA, IDPA and our beloved precision pistol. All at a family friendly facility that has something for everyone. I believe they will soon have plans on an indoor facility to keep the shooting sports active throughout the cold months. Nothing but good things can come from this.
Big smiley face.

Re: Cardinal announcement
Did anyone happen to notice that the OP's multi-year deal (with 2500 competitors) is scheduled to be the same week as the annual NRA Pistol Championships...

"Scholastic Action Pistol Program and the Scholastic Clay Target"
Doesn't seem to impact the bullseye matches.

You don't think 2500 competitors will impact our lodging at all?bdutton wrote:Ed Hall wrote:Did anyone happen to notice that the OP's multi-year deal (with 2500 competitors) is scheduled to be the same week as the annual NRA Pistol Championships...

Re: Cardinal announcement
I'm talking about the suggestion that the NRA Nationals move to Cardinal. They would coincide and compete for lodging, although, they might be able to handle ~3000 comfortably. I'm a "hut" or barracks kind of guy, though. That lodging might get tight.bdutton wrote:2 hours south. I doubt it.

Re: Cardinal announcement
If they do like the ATA did, it will not be held concurrently.

Re: Cardinal announcement
That was my point. If they were trying to get the NRA National Pistol Matches to move there and expecting it to be within a couple years, why would they schedule other events into the National Matches annual time window?james r chapman wrote:If they do like the ATA did, it will not be held concurrently.
Re: Cardinal announcement
I doubt they would schedule both events at the same time. They would have to move the dates for pistol/smallbore to a different week or the ATA shoot on another.

Re: Cardinal announcement
The dates are for this year only....
To my knowledge NRA nationals for 2016 are to be held at Perry...
2017 dates and locations have not been released.......

Re: Cardinal announcement
Again, my point! We have shot our NRA match on the same schedule every year, adjusting for date creep, for a lot of decades. There are several other matches based on that schedule. Now, if we move venues, we also have to move all the associated dates? I'm not saying it can't be done. And it may even work out better, but even the InterService Pistol Matches are held relative to the National Matches dates. Now, why would 2500 competitors, already holding a time slot at Cardinal, want to shift their schedules? That leaves us. Again, I'm saying that everything may work out great. If we want it to work, it will. But will we lose any of our comrades? Conversely, will we pick up some that can never make our current schedule?bdutton wrote:I doubt they would schedule both events at the same time. The 2016 dates are 10-17 July, which makes the 2017 dates 9-16 July. This is the normal progression of the NRA Pistol Match schedule, until the 4th interferes and the Matches move back one week, which was done for 2016. I'm not saying it can't work. But, we need to be aware of any extra changes that may be introduced with this change. It may effect projected leave schedules for some. The USAF team, and I suspect others, would have a very hard time attending both InterService and Nationals if they were held any closer than they are currently. In reality, a longer break between might be more compatible with the USAF team member's work schedules. But others may be affected differently.Danehogle wrote:The dates are for this year only....

Re: Cardinal announcement
Ed,
To my knowledge the SSSF just picked the dates for this year. Relax, I am sure that moving there match a week will not be to much of a problem.
Seeing as small bore could move to Cardinal also, smallbore Match could be after pistol and SSSF could be the week before.... See problem solved.

Re: Cardinal announcement
This all sounds great. I just brought it up so it could be addressed. And, I'm not hard-fast, either. As noted, a date change could have advantages...Danehogle wrote:Ed,
