Star 230gr FMJ .45 loads
Just getting backing into reloading and while digging out my presses/supplies I forgot I had bought a bunch of Star .45 230gr FMJ blems when they closed. Back then I was shooting almost exclusively .40 and Star was local so I was picking up blems at their office cheap. When they closed I bought a bunch of stuff including the .45's. Anybody have any load data for these? Mainly looking for W231 or Vihtavouri 3N37 since I have a bunch still from the .40 loading. Looking to move to 185 JHP and N310 eventually so N310 loads also appreciated (although chart shows pretty slow with it for 230gr). Will be shooting out of a 5" Kart barrel and Sig P220. Most of my shooting currently is indoors at 7-21 yards. Any info appreciated!

Hello spyer40,
I have had very good results with 4.2 grains of Vihta Vuori N310 (+- 750 feet per second) and good results with 5.6 grains of Winchester 231 (no velocity).

Thanks! Seems the 231 loads I'm finding are all over the place and more than the 5.3gr max on Winchester site. What COL were you using? They say 1.20 for the 5.3, assume you ran a little longer hence the 5.6?

I've used 5.5gr 231 in the past, 1.265" oal. That load was about 790 fps. The N310 load Jim mentioned is also a good one. Very soft recoil.

Hello spyer40,
I don't think 1.200 inches can be correct albeit it doesn't matter to me; I use 1.265 inches too.

Yeah, agreed on the 1.200 not sounding correct. Seemed short for 230 from everything I'm reading. Thanks!
