Flip down eye patch/blinder/.,..... Empty Flip down eye patch/blinder/.,.....

Post by bmize1 3/8/2016, 6:32 pm

Or what ever you call it
I started shooting BE last year an learned to shoot with both eyes open and have not had a problem until now.
I got new glasses (progressive lenses) and first trip to the range I'm having problems with eyes trying to focus on the target. I am seeing more of an oval.....
So I guess I need one of these flip up/down type blinder things.

What do you call them and where do you find them?

Thanks

Champion's Choice has them.

First two, choice of black or white. Most people use the white ones

Use a piece of tape or a repair sticker.  It's what I use in a pinch.

Do what trapshooters do. Use the Frosted scotch tape.

I have bought a lot of stuff from this outfit. The blinder is out of stock right now but they should get more soon. Flat rate shipping of 5.99 makes them a great place to get targets too. NFI

You only need to cover a small part of the lens. I use a 3/4 inch paster or a small piece of frosted tape.

The oval could be from looking through the progressive part of the lens not the distance part. I have a friend who found out his bent sight was from his lens and canting his head.

Progressive lens have a sweet spot for different distances. Get a pair of cheap clip-on fold up sunglasses, Without the sunglasses, get your best focus of the target, have someone mark a small dot on your glasses, inline with your pupil. Transfer that dot to the sunglasses, drill a very small hole in the sunglasses lens at the sweet spot, this will act the same as an apperiture (spelling?) on a peep sight. If this does not work, cut off the one lens and you have a flip down eye patch.

Ditch the progressives and go with glasses made with  single prescription lenses. The progressives are not at all ideal for shooting. They are not set for close, and they are not set for far, and chances are the part where you might kind of want to shoot through is not where your head will sit naturally. They are an optical abomination.

There are other articles out there on what to do, but here is one: http://www.spyderwebmaster.com/eyes.htm

+1 on ditching the bifocals.. I have a set of single vision for my dots and another set focused on the front sight for my irons.
