Question from a revolver guy.... Empty Question from a revolver guy....

Post by ST BERNARD Sat Apr 09, 2016 12:51 pm

.. I've been lurking around here for quite a while now. Found this forum on Encyclopedia of Bullseye Shooting site, and read them both almost everyday. REALLY enjoy them, and have learned much. Last Fall, I bought my first ever 1911.... a new Commander. Had never shot one, or seen inside one. ... and will be buying a Gold Cup soon for a dedicated paper punch.  Would like to hear opinions on the new ones.  I figure it would make a good foundation to build on in the future.  Not being a competitive shooter (or good shooter for that matter), it would't need to be a 1 1/2 inch capable  masterpiece.  A Range Officer isn't out of the question yet, but new Gold Cups are just nicer IMO...... the rib, the wide trigger, all forged, the finish etc. And they are still American made.
    Sounds like plenty of you folks here know whereof you speak, and would like to know what you think. Are the new ones a good buy for a guy who plays around at 25 yards at a indoor range and wants to maybe break into bullseye shooting?
      All thanks in advance;
                                                           Bill

Not being an expert in both at the range and at building pistols, that being said it seems like the Range officer is a great building block for a bullseye pistol.  I have a Springfield that was done over by David Salyer and it is a pretty nice pistol.  That being said the Gold cups sue are pretty.

The GCNM on Colt's website,..#05870A1 has a rib. That's the one we're looking at to  start with, and hope some of you have had good results with them.
       Thank you for the replies;
