Springfield XDM for Camp Perry
My son was asked to shoot the Springfield XDM at Camp Perry. Trigger weight was increased to 4 pounds. The targets are in the photos. He shot a 295-15X with it, shooting another rapid fire he shot a 100-7x (3th target) Simply put for those new shooters you do not need a decked out fancy pistol to get a good score. Understand these are witnessed targets of actual shooting not some doctored targets some gunsmith's post to claim their guns shoot great. Yes a little work was done to the gun but can be done by the shooter. Some welding was required on the barrel but I'm sure a smith can be found to do what is required.Simply put here is a pistol that can advance you to the top without spending a fortune!!!!! Yes I assume he will be shooting it in the CMP National Match.

Here's the slow fire target, not sure what I did but it wasn't included in the other photos.

Well, the first picture and the third picture are the same target. So you are still missing one of the timed or RF targets. I do the same thing. When you go back to grab a picture out of your album they are so small you don't know which one you are clicking on. What caliber is that? Tell me it was with a 40 so I will go buy one.

What's an un-welded, factory fresh gun target look like?
For comparison purposes.

I've got to say I'm surprised/impressed by this XDM's performance, particularly at 50 yards.
Last year at Camp Perry I looked around a bit on Service Pistol day to see how many people were shooting newly approved Service Pistols (non-1911/M9). Didn't see very many, probably because of how recent the rule change was, but performance like this may shake things up a bit

I'm sure the p100 winner will be shooting an M9 or 1911HogCommander wrote:I've got to say I'm surprised/impressed by this XDM's performance, particularly at 50 yards.

Re: Springfield XDM for Camp Perry
I e-mailed my son to confirm what caliber he's using. Plus to get more info on what needs to be welded on the barrel, I also noticed I misquoted him "The barrel needs welded a fit to get this type of accuracy or a gunsmith fit oversized barrel" is what he wrote. This is the same gun he used to Win the Production Class Bianchi Cup a few weeks ago except the trigger weight was increased from 3.5 to 4 pounds. Look like this will be a great entry level pistol.
Might surprise you Chris, Adam intends to shoot this XDM in Service Pistol Match.

I would have challenged that slowfire. Looks like a 99 to me. 296-15x. Great shooting.

Re: Springfield XDM for Camp Perry
Impressive. If the only modification was a barrel to slide fit at the muzzle and trigger weight adjusted, that isn't much work. Looking at the target, it looks like .45 ACP to me, but I might be wrong. So this is the Springfield Armory XD (M) Competition Series?

I'd be willing to bet it wasn't just a muzzle refit, but a weldup and refit at the lugs and probably the hood also.

There has been encouragement in that direction..Christopher Miceli wrote:Wonder if any Springfield team members will be shooting XDs
I have not considered it, for her, due to recoil related injury potential..

What caliber is he using? I'd like to steer newer shooters this way.
Thanks,

Re: Springfield XDM for Camp Perry
I received the reply from my son as to caliber and some other info. Hope this answers questions about the pistol.
Springfield XD-M 5.25 competition 9mm:
http://www.springfield-armory.com/products/xdm-competition-series-9mm/
This company sells just about everything XDM:
http://www.springerprecision.com/
Items recommended:
-Springer Precision or Powder River trigger kit $100-150/ (Brownells)
-PowderRiver striker retainer pin, replacing standard split pin with stronger spring roll pin
$12 (Brownells)
-replacement front sight, or modify existing fiber optic sight to standard bullseye black sight. (AMU made new sights but first they used a piece of drill rod in place of the fiber.)
-tungsten or steel guide rod, multiple companies sell ranging for $25-100
-replacement barrel, Bar-sto & KKM $240+ for gunsmith fit or drop in. Factory competition barrels have tested accurate. They have to be welded at the bottom of the feed ramp, this is where the barrels sits on the steel frame.
Stock guns can be purchased new about $700. They are selling on gunbroker about $600.
These are very reliable guns, and typically come with two or three magazines.
Anyways, just a cool gun that has the potential for multiple uses.

My local gun shop just ordered me one for 550.00. I don't think he is making much money off the sale. I may have to bring him a Ling Cod or two. I have already been working/thinking on an adaptation for my Lee rest. It will be interesting to see what stock groups look like.

Re: Springfield XDM for Camp Perry
Jim, You know I always seem to be paddling upstream. I ordered it in the 40 cal. I couldn't justify getting another 9 or 45 but the only 40 I had left in the safe was an M&P Shield. It should be a nice double purpose choice.

Re: Springfield XDM for Camp Perry
The benefit of the 9mm is the thinner grip than the 45 ACP.
I already have a 45 so I'll just use that. It will make a great backup/loaner!
KKM is selling barrels, but only 9mm. That is what the AMU used, but I think they're switching to Kart.
