Back to the Basics
Well guys I have been snooping around on this forum now for quite some time. I have not actively competed since 1993 and then had only reached the high end of Sharpshooter before stepping back from Bullseye. I have been working hard the last 2-3 months trying to get back into some sort of respectable ability so that I don't make a fool of myself as I jump back into the sport. I have been reading everybody's posts and gathered more knowledge from everyone here and have been trying to apply what I have read. Long story short is I have been trying to work through the USMC Marksmanship Program and had not seen any improvement to really speak of. With that said I decided to go back the the very beginning. I took the optics off all of my guns and went back to irons. With the optics I caught myself trying to snatch shots and ended up just being the jerk behind the trigger. Today I went out to the range to just work on 22 slow fire at 25 yards as the USMC program has you to do. However, I just can't get past not shooting at a target that doesn't have scoring rings on it. Anyway the efforts today I believe are finally beginning to pay off. I shot 200 rounds of nothing but slow fire at 25 yards using the timed and rapid fire center. My total combined score was 1881 out of 2000 possible for 94%. My last 20 rounds was 194 with 4 X's. Now I know this is not house a fire shooting but it is a great improvement from where I was when I started. Now with all that long drawn out story said I want to thank everybody on this forum for passing along their knowledge and love of this sport which has caused me to dust off the guns again and compete.
