First time to Camp Perry
I am glad I made my first trip to the national championships, I for sure will be back. A big thanks to Jon Eulette for the gun builds and KC Crawford for the countless trigger jobs I put him through to get the roll length I wanted on my teardrop hammers. It was a blessing having KC there to support us shooters.
As a new shooter I was a bit let down at the facilities of the national matchs. I always read the stories of commercial row and its grandness.... I didn't even know I stumbled upon it till I saw a sign that said commercial row. As for competitor check ins go I was expecting a large sign with arrows pointing me in the right direction, but I had to rely on my fellow shooters to explain to me that I check in with the CMP in one building and walk down the street for NRA check in. Ohio national guard graciously allowed competitors to use the mess hall, PX , and housing...but I opted to stay in town.
For me the best part of the matchs was meeting fellow shooters, it was a sight to see so many fellow shooters in one place all competing. I am also very thankful to all the volunteers that made the matchs run.
Now for how I did, I meet most of the extremely high goals I set for myself. I took home my last 10 points for Distingushed revolver 262-4x (waiting for NRA award) I won 1st expert for the preliminary match with a 859-35x, 39th overall for the national championship, 3rd expert , 1st collegiate with a 2535-78x, president 100 tab with a 354-6x. I fell short to leg out in service pistol and obtain any points in the 22 EIC... But that's what next year is for. Now that I know that they give away guns for winning the P100 and service pistol matchs I have something to aim for. I plan to come back to the championships next year as a master and take home some more goodies.
Here is what I won this year.

I shot most of 13 and 14 with iron sights then sold everything to fund my wife and myself through college. Picked up some new guns in June and shot a match in Washington. Showed up to Canton cold...relearned some stuff and shot Perry.

Excellent! You inspire those of us who have never been to want to jump up and go. Maybe I'll see you there next year!

You da man. I never won that much in all the years I attended Perry. You can be a "big gun", if you can find the time to train. Best wishes for your goal of making it to the top.

To all new shooters who are interested the game is only as expensive as you make it. I was introduced to the sport in 2009 but waited to 2013 to buy a S&W 41 that I didn't enjoy shooting. I used the AMU service pistol book, and post of shooters on this forum to develop my stance, grip and trigger control. I would recommend to anyone shoot what you have and upgrade as you can.

Re: First time to Camp Perry
Camp Perry is a place like no other, almost like it was lost in time I'm sure it wasn't much different when new shooters showed up there in the 1960's Commercial row for my first visit was more than adequate to relieve me of 3 grand over the course of the week. But I fear change is coming and As hard as B,Zins and others are pushing the cardinal center with all the Facebook videos he's done the nationals may not be at Perry much longer. Congrats on your achievement's you will cherish those memories for a lifetime.

If Perry holds nationals next year bring your air pistol(or you can rent one) and you can shot at the CMP air range with electronic targets

Hi Chris; Great Shooting!!!! Nice to have met you at Perry! Hope your back next year!! Since you were at the award ceremony you probably seen Adam did quite well too! Not sure how long Perry will last! Hearing bad things, don't understand how it's possible but I'm hearing the National Guard's lease on the property is ending soon, state seems to want to sell it to a developer. I was thinking the state had to provide the ground for the NG. What's next Ohio National Guard move to PA??? Maybe WV???
