1911 Magizine feeding lip types which is best?
Excluding the old GI made for ball ammo, mags now come in two styles, parallel (aka Wadcutter) and Hybird style.
Not concerned with brand names as most all companies offer both style feeding lips. In Bullseye lead swc is the round of choice for the majority of shooters, So which do you consider is best for target shooting and why.

ive got both types from metal form, was looking for someone who could explain the geometry of the two types and may have a educated opinion on why one might be better over the other.

Here's a link to Checkmate magazines that explains the different types of feed lips.

I have used the Checkmate Hybrid 7 round for years and never had any problems.
Hope this helps you

I don't know the design type that is used with the springfeild RO mags but when working at the firing range sometimes guys will have their plinker 45 autos out and bought "the best" after market mag that doesn't seem to work. When I offer my springfeild mags to try they always work. Hollow points, lead, round nose. Doesn't matter. And they always let the slide lock open on the last shot. They've been in Ruger's, Para's, Colt, S&W, Rock Island, Auto Ordanace, and a Wilson Combat. They all worked.
I dont know the design type. I didn't know there was a difference. I just thought all manufacturers made em different. But I know this - the springfeild work. So I'll figure out the design and say stick to that.

if you really want to drive yourself crazy

some really esoteric "stuff" there.
one size or style doesn't fit all..
wadcutter mags were designed for shorter ammo such as the H&G68 and 130..
GI style are for ball ammo(longer)
hybrids try and work with both..
I suspect most of us run the hybrids.
I run wadcutter style in my EIC 45.. I shoot the old style short nose SWC jacketed bullets and have to use that type of mag. those mags also work well with the 130 style bullet.

I run the Magnus 801 button nose in my hybrid mags with no problem. If fact the hybrid mags are the only ones I have now for all my 1911's and run 230 FMJ, 200 gr SWC, 185 gr SWC of various designs and 160 SWC. I have never had any magazine feed problems of any kind with Checkmate Hybrid mags or any of the GI feed lip mags I have used whether in my Clark, Caspian Kimber or Colt. Have never tried the WC mags but then it seems I don't need them. Just my experience, YMMV
