Re: What is this Ammo?
Appears to be DCM-issued National Match ammo for service pistol matches. All the ones I have though list the year on the top of the box with the "MATCH" text and eagle logo. And where yours says "Caliber .45 Match" 50 cartridges, mine have the year and say "National Rifle and Pistol Matches Camp Perry, Ohio". Is there a year listed on the headstamp?

It's match ball ammo. Look at headstamp for date/year. Shoots excellent.

It's not still made. You can find some for sale on the auction sites and there's a guy on Commercial Row at Perry who sells some but it's way too expensive there. Usually it's found from shooters who were active when it was issued. It's good ammo, I've shot lots of '57 and '62 NM issued ammo that my grandfather had leftover. My buddy had some '02 NM .45 ball ammo that his father gave him. But at that point it was no longer issued at CMP/DCM matches. Once they stopped issuing ammo for the matches this ammo went away. I'd say Black Hills 230-grain FMJ is fairly close in performance to this ammo.

I traded a box of my 3.5 gr bullseye 200 gr LSWC reloads for it. The shooter is a friend of mine. His father was in the military. That's where he got it he said.

Re: What is this Ammo?
That sounds correct. The military teams were issued this ammo and were able to practice with it also so they were usually the only ones who had it in sizeable amounts. Civilians had it issued to them on the line at DCM/CMP matches. Good trade!

I had lots of that kind of ammo in the early 70s. Notice the 820 velocity. Loads with 230 Sierra and 5.2 N320 work just as well and same velocity

I have a box of 7.62 Match with the same logo. It's what we used to get at Leg matches.

It was highly sought after when cmp required full power 230 fmj for matches for the way ball gun matches use to be shot. You can use it but doubt you can match the scores guys are shooting with softball loads these days. I have several boxes of it myself, great defense load if you want fmj round nose.

It's called "white box". I had about 50 boxes of it when I got out of the service. I hoarded it for a long time but eventually shot it all up. I can honestly say that I don't miss it. Probably the number one reason I had to get my Gold Cup re-built. Genuine hardball ammo. Very accurate though.

I've seen that stuff shoot under 1.5 in good ball gun. I've shot some 97 plus SF with it in my youth. Very good ammo. At Perry in 2013 I used some for Pres100. I started with 3 x's and 2 10's before my rear sight broke. I just finished the last of what I had. Really good ammo.

Tim,
What you have found is an heirloom:
Once upon a time in a land far, far away.......
Burned up a ton of LC Match in an M1A.

I still have a few boxes from the late 70s and early 80's..All Winchester. even have some wadcutter boxed in a similar fashion..
Excellent brass BTW. I still shoot quite a bit of late 70s WCC stuff.. if you befriended the right people you could get bucket loads of it.. or in my case the back end of an old Honda hatchback full..

Re: What is this Ammo?
The LC-Match for rifle did not have a crimp, and was great for reloading from that aspect. Form the old LC-Match pistol that I have floating around, I think that it also was void of the standard military crimp.

Looks like a box of ammo that was worth a lot more $$ in October, 2014, than in March, 2015
