Hammerli 208s magazine issue
Using the search engine I found no past comments but maybe someone has dealt with this before. I have one 208s magazine that keeps locking the slide open with one round left in the mag. In 50 rounds, 10 strings of 5 worth, it held the slide open 6 times. Luckily this wasn't during a match.
no other mag did this so I am go to call the one mag the problem. The little tab on the left side that actuates the slide lever looks the same as the others so besides the magazine spring is there anything else to inspect?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Hammerli 208s magazine issue
One thing I can think of off-hand is how high the magazine is sitting in the frame. Compare the positioning of the slot in the back of the "faulty" magazine with the "good" ones to see if the tab is possibly further down the back. A lot of the Hammerli made magazines of the last years of production sat too high in the frame, but the usual trouble was the empty cases ejecting off the left rear lip instead of the ejector.

I would check to make sure the slide lock isn't too loose and flopping up locking slide to rear. Might also take good magazine follower and bad one and measure to see if identical height on catch. Might not hurt to try good follower in bad magazine and see if it still does it. Process of elimination.

To me the only weak link in a 208s is the slide lock. I have another loose one to tighten and restake. I have had to replace a few springs there too. I keep wondering if the hole in the frame is getting wallowed out.

They break on the Exesse regularly I here. I've fixed two of them. I wonder if inferior casting?

Thanks for the advice. I should be able to get some testing in within a few days and i'll report any findings.

Re: Hammerli 208s magazine issue
well it's amazing what 5 swipes of a medium file will fix. exactly as you pointed out, the tab was just slightly longer. 5 easy passes made quick work of it and zero problems in 100 rounds. I did pretty much all the shortline training steps in the MC manual. With 50 yard access not as readily available I was able to get 10 X's in 15 rounds of 25 yard slowfire the first attempt. I guess those Hammerli's do shoot!Ed Hall wrote:One thing I can think of off-hand is how high the magazine is sitting in the frame.
