putting a red dot on a revolver
I thought I'd try using a revolver for centerfire with a red dot. I have a M14-3 that shoots great, how could I get a red dot mounted on it? I also have a newer 686 that I believe would be easier to do this too....Thoughts? It'd be a 30mm Ultradot. Thanks

The 14-3 may be too old to have the mount hole already drilled and tapped but most of the S&Ws from the last two decades already have an extra hole under the rear sight which will work with the sight mount screw holes themselves to allow a no-gunsmithing installation.

If you remove the rear sight from you 686 and it looks like the picture below, you can use the 'WEIG-A-TINNY' rail without drilling and tapping.

The Weaver base costs a lot less and works great for Bullseye loads. I wouldn't use them on a 460mag but I have them on all my BE revolvers.

+1. Works great on my 686 and I've shot house 357 loads through it without problems. Wow, I paid almost 4x that amount for the mount some years ago...

Don't forget these. That Ultra dot came with vertical split rings. They work but, these work better. Personal opinion.
