185gr Hps or 200gr HPs Long Line?
I just got my Zero HPs in for my 45 LB WC a few day ago. All the places I looked only had 185s so got a 1000. Are these going to be OK on the Long Line? What is the reason for 200s on the LL? I figure it must be less wind drift and a better BC as they are a little longer. All the builders I contacted that guarantee group size use 185 Federal Premium. At the cost I am only shooting these Zero bullets for matches as my Berry's Plated HPs are grouping about as well. All my group testing has been with my Ransom Rest at 50yds but the Bullseye range I shoot at doesn't have the best bench for using the rest. It does still give a comparison to what the Federals group at. I did find the Missouri Hi Tech coated 185 SWCs I been practicing with are worthless at 50yds. If the Ranson Rest can't keep 10 shots in the black I am going to have a hard time doing it one handed. They will all group in the 10 ring with 5 Xs at 25yds they just open way up at 50. Don

Shoot the Zero 185 SWCHP, they group as good or better than any 200gr SWC including the Zero 200gr, at least in my gun, and with slightly less recoil. Zero 185gr JHP will group just a little bit tighter still.
Wind drift? With a 20mph side wind there is about 0.000001" wind drift difference at 50yards - being a little sarcastic here. Wind will affect your shooting arm about 10,000X more than the bullet.
Shoot all your crap bullets at 25yards until they are gone.
I have never had any luck with Berry's for 50 yard Bullseye, I go through about 2-3,000 Berry's a year in my polymer guns, I do really like them for that.

The reason is the 185 is essentially a 200 with a hole and has more bearing surface in the case then a 185gn LSWC.
I shot a LL 93 with them this summer, I am down to my last 500 and I am saving them for the long line.

Keep the load up for the 185 JHP. I found 4.6 gr BE to be a perfect load and a good match to store bought match ammo.

I have had good grouping, less than 2", with Zero LSWCHP's over 4.6gr WST.

Seams you and others are loading a little heavier then I am I am running 3.6gr of BE and was told moving that charge up might tighten up the groups. I hadn't ran any ladder test and i just started with the 3.6gr that some recommended on this forum. Normally with all my other reloads in 9mm, 380 Auto, 38 and 357mag 40 S&W I spend a lot of time with the lab Radar and bench rest. I just skipped this as I wanted to try to make the two club shoots this month but I am not ready yet. Sitting down tonight to load Zero 185 JHP over 3.8, 4.0, 4.2, and 4.6gr of BE. Testing to start tomorrow. Donmessenger wrote:I have had good grouping, less than 2", with Zero LSWCHP's over 4.6gr WST.

Ransom Rest testing complete. The 3.6gr BE under a 185gr Zero JHP gave 667fps, 3.8 697fps, 4.0gr 734fps, 4.2gr 759fps, 4.4gr 795fps, 4.6gr 789fps, tested with Labradar. Was surprises at the drop off of velocity with the 4.6gr and the groups opened up a bunch. every .2grs decreased the size of the groups with 4.2 being the best but 4.4 started to open up again. 4.2 will be my LL load. Now to find a practice round. Don
