IMI ammunition Empty IMI ammunition

I picked up a few boxes of Israeli Military Industries  45acp 185 grain fmj wadcutter ammunition and was wondering if anybody has any idea what the muzzle velocity is.  Shoots well but seems a bit snappier than my 185 grain lead swc reloaded with 4.8 grains of w231.  Would be nice to have a cronograph but that is not happening soon.

take care

It is definitely higher velocity than any other standard factory wad cutter for 45. Some lots from the early 1990's were extremely good, even with it being "snappy". It was issued to many military teams in brown boxes.

Mine came in the brown boxes.  I believe the Federal gold medal match wadcutters are running about 770 fps and was wondering if these are similar or faster.

The military headstamp was TZZ and while good ammo, a lot of it ran hot and beat up some pistols.  You'd have to feed your gun a steady diet of the stuff but the Marines had some issues with TZZ 45.

We get issued it and the Marines shoot it as well.  I haven't seen any issues at Interservice or Nationals with their or our team other than it being spicy.

Thank you for all the info, mine is stamped IMI.  I looked on IMI's website and they don't list it so not sure if it is still made, what I have does not look that old, very little if no tarnish on the brass.

I tested this ammo from a rest today and in my pistol it shot just a bit larger groups than my 185 grain lead reloads.  Functioned well and with my lower level shooting skills it is more than adequate. Still don't know how fast it is but I think it is about the same as Federal Match 185 grain SWC.
