.45 Long Colt for Bullseye?
S&W only makes the long barreled Model 25 in .45 Long Colt, not in .45 auto. I am tempted to buy one in Long Colt and try it for Bullseye with Lead bullets. Do the current barrels shoot Lead well? Is there anything else I ought to worry about with late production Model 25 pistols?

You might ask the same question on the S&W forum a lot of people on that forum know a lot about the S&W's and which ones shoot what well. Good luck.,

Hit or miss with the newer "Classics". I had to throw away the ignition parts in a 14-8 but my 29-? (new) was smooth as silk.

I have a soft spot for the old 45 colt and have owned several. However, I've never been able to get the accuracy with light loads that is needed in a bullseye gun. Not sayin' it can't be done. Just a lot easier with the ACP.
That's no reason not to have one though. I currently own four. Of course I also have a Sharps rifle just to keep those pesky bison out of my yard!

I have a 25-2. .45 ACP 6 1/2 inch barrel. Seems to shoot hardball better than LSWC, but that can be a sizing issue. It does have larger throats than my 625. The 625 shoots good with both. Rapid fire is a challenge with either. Slow and timed are great.

I recently switched from all light lead loads (3.8gr BE 185 LSWC) to a much hotter 4.6 gr BE 185 Nosler bullet for the long line in my 25-2. I think it's more about getting out of the barrel faster then any problem with the pistol. I also have great luck with my 45 Colt light loads but that probably is the pistol (XVR). It has a 1:1/10-1:1/20 gain twist. I also have the 45 Colt in an old Blackhawk with 1/16 like the 25-2 and the 25 but have never shot light loads in that old abused (by me) revolver.
