Resignation
FYI, I have resigned from the NRA effective 4/11/17.
It's been great working and competing with you these many years.
This is my decision. It's time to retire. It's also short notice because the selling of my current home in Virginia and the buying of a new home in Michigan occurred at a rapid pace and changed my original plans of leaving in late April.
Best wishes and good shooting.
Denny

Re: Resignation
If I do it will have to be with 2 hands. The last 2700 I shot (2015 Virginia State Championship, I believe) I needed 14 physical therapy visits to straighten out my shoulder. I had shoulder surgery in 2005 and it's never been right since. The doctor told be that I would never shoot again. I can do without the physical therapy so I might have to lay off the Bullseye.

Re: Resignation
Denny,
Good luck and God bless. I hope our paths will cross on the firing line some day...even if we are both shooting two hands.
It's been an honor to serve with you on the NRA Board and as a member of the Pistol Committee.
Thank you for your service to the shooting community and to the NRA.
Wishing you Only X's and 10's...and fair weather...and a covered firing point.

Re: Resignation
Jim,
I have been thinking about doing so. I had a wonderful time as a member MPCPA and probably have several friends who still compete in the matches. Maybe I should call Joe Leinenger and get a new gun built and Glenn Duncan for a new holster.

Re: Resignation
Denny,
I appreciate all the hard work you did over the years and the good things you brought to the sport. Most bullseye shooters really have no idea of the effort you put in from shooting, Bullseye-L picnic organizing, serving as NRA referee and your current job. Again, although the nay sayers might have gotten under your skin the past few years, there are those of us who know you will leave a vacuum at the NRA that will be hard to fill. You have been a great friend to the sport of bullseye pistol shooting and to us shooters. Enjoy your retirement.

Re: Resignation
Thanks Mike. Sometimes I was handcuffed here but I hope that everyone realizes that I did the best that I could with the resources that I had. You might not have always agreed but my part was always done with the best of intentions.

Re: Resignation
Thank you Dennis. You took on a thankless job and did a fine job. Best of luck in whatever comes next.
Re: Resignation
Thanks for all your hard work, both at the office and behind the line. Sorry you won't be shooting. If you decide to wear the zebra shirt and ref a Precision Pistol match, I hope to see you somewhere again.
I doubt I'll get to Michigan, so have a great retirement and do what makes you happy. (I highly recommend retirement now that I've tried it out!)
Please keep in touch though as I, and I sure many others, place a high value on your opinions and thoughts.

Denny,
Thank you for all your hard work and for looking out for our sport. Maybe you and Jon N. can get together at Perry again on range 4.

Thanks for everything you did in what is, by definition, a thankless job. If it weren't for people like you doing the thankless jobs, we wouldn't have any of our shooting sports.

Re: Resignation
Hi Denny, as everyone has written, "Thank You!" for many years of service to the Bullseye community. I will not forget your generous offer for the use your prized Colt revolver at Camp Perry many years ago. I retired last year and was like a kid having so much range time, which became a curse because I developed a rotator cuff issue on my shooting arm. It took about seven months to "quiet" down without surgery and now I'm looking forward to our upcoming state match.
Only a certain type of individual could accomplished what you have done. I recalled a post from you that there are three types of people; workers, leaders, and politicians. You had sold yourself short by stating that you were a worker, but in reality you have evolved into all three. Recent ramblings in this forum about the politics at Camp Perry and CMP reminded me first hand when I helped Ed Masaki and his generous auction for the good of the juniors and his gunsmith class. There were numerous roadblocks from those in charge at Camp Perry and a few critical comments from our own Bullseye participants which I've kept to myself, so I have some idea of what you have endured and battled. Enjoy your retirement, I am!

Thank you for all you have done. Its awful easy to want to shoot the messenger, and you have been fighting a uphill battle a lot of the times, so I'm sure it wasn't easy. I think most of us apreacheted you coming on here, and filling us in on what was going on. Enjoy the new diggs

Re: Resignation
Dennis,
From a mutual friend I have heard of some of the probs you have encountered as the Director and what a "mess" you inherited upon accepting the job. Thank you for the work you have done for a great sport!
I understand how you must feel re: your shoulder and BE. Mine are both worn out and I miss the old days of regionals , Bristol, Canton, then of course Perry!
Thank You,
Ron Habegger
