Selling firearms questions
Hi all, I didn't know if I should post here or in Commercial. anyway.... If I sell a gun here in the classifieds, I want to clarify how the process works.
Looks like FedEx will ship firearms, so OK there. As far as shipping to an FFL, do I call and tell them I have a gun to ship there and ask for their license?
How does that work? Anything else I need to know or do?
Thanks, Kurt

Re: Selling firearms questions
It's the buyers job to contact the FFL the firearm will be sent to and they will send you their information. The rest is much more complicated. Read this.

Re: Selling firearms questions
LenV is correct. I ask that the buyer contact an FFL and get a copy of their license and send that to me either e-mail or snail mail. I have had UPS, Fed-Ex and FFL's on my end ask to see the copy and my experience is they will NOT ship without this and will not ship to an FFL Quick Check number. My area isn't very gun friendly so this may be the reason why they ask for this.
Like stated, this has been my experience, whether it's right or wrong I feel better having a copy of the license to keep on file along with the shipping receipt for my files in case the Fed's come knocking. I will not send to an FFL that will not give me a copy, loosing a sale is cheaper than hiring attorneys to defend me in court
Just as a heads up I have had people give me a Quick Check number and ask me to ship to that FFL. I then called said FFL to make sure they would except from private individuals and they said NO nor did they ever hear of the person that supposedly got their Quick Check number. One guy gave me 3 different QC numbers and all 3 said they never heard of that person. Was it a scam? Don't know but the sale was cancelled. Better safe than in the pokey.
YMMV

Re: Selling firearms questions
Just a tip. If it is a handgun, you cannot, but an FFL can, send it to another FFL via the U.S. Post Office instead of FEDEX or UPS. It is considerably less expensive. My local FFL will do this for $10.00 + postage and it is still much less than UPS. A lot of FFL's won't receive a firearm from an individual. One other thing is I ask that the buyer send me a photocopy of their driver's license. FFL's like knowing that the gun is going to an actual person. I pack the copy of the FFL and the buyer's contact information in with the handgun.

Another thing,
I have used www.shipmyguns.com with complete success and it's way less $$ that if I do it myself.
