Compact Spotting Scopes?
I have a Vortex Diamondback spotting scope that is really more for seeing holes at 200/300/600 yards for Highpower & CMP Service Rifle although I've been putting it on my Strong Case for BE too. The problem is (besides being overkill) the lid on the Strong Case won't close if I put more than one 100 round container of ammo on the bottom shelf. I saw some other shooters using short and compact spotting scopes that seem like they would leave lots of room on that lower shelf. Can anyone recommend a compact spotting scope that fits well on a BE box? I like the angled eyepiece, but can live with a straight scope if I need to, I guess. The alternative is to get the add-on drawer for the Strong Case, but I *really* don't want to be lugging around that much weight.

I do not have a compact scope but I would like to ask about the Vortex scope you have.
The scope you have will see holes out to 600 yds ? what size bullets and how many powder is the scope ?

The NG spotting scopes is the way to go. You will have soooo much more room in your box.

I also like the ng. Leaves lots of room in the box.

My 20 60x Simmons won't see 22 holes in the black at 20yds so I am also looking for a better one. Don

Re: Compact Spotting Scopes?
We use a Celestron 52320 10-30 x 50. It is quite clear and also very small...works perfect for the Strong pistol box. I just checked Amazon and they are $54. When I was shopping for my rifle and pistol scopes, I was given the advice to look at the birdwatchers forums. No one is more critical of the scope quality than a serious birder and the Celestron was one the talked about quite a bit.

NG20 is the most compact I know of that will still let you see .22 holes at 50 yards. The guy in Canada on ebay is the only one who has them right now. At a little over $200, not cheap, but worth it.

My mistake. Yes, I can kind of see the holes at 600 yards (I shoot .308) but not well enough to want to try to make a habit of it. In Highpower the targets are marked for you by the target puller in the pits who fills the holes you make with brightly colored markers. I have a Vortex Diamondback but I forget the model number it's one of the smaller ones.

I tried the NG and didn't like it, but wanted to.
Went back to the CC scope.

I have a Minox 15x30 it has very nice glass, at 50 yards it has just enough magnification to make out 22 holes. Works well in my strong box.

I have 3 of the Burris 12-24x50 compacts. Super clear and I like them because they focus on the 50' targets for my winter league matches. Work great in a StrongCase. A little tight in my Pachmyer case I lowered for dots.

Re: Compact Spotting Scopes?
Thank you, gentlemen, for all your advice. I read all your posts, did some research, and just ordered a NG 20x33 scope with tripod, case, and adaptor for $210 US. They are a little hard to find. Mine is coming from Canada via an eBay seller. At 7 inches overall and slimmer in profile than my current scope (and half the length) but still with a crook neck eyepiece, this should do the trick. Your advice was appreciated, and acted upon.

Though they are expensive, they are nice. They are as clear on the 50 yd line as my old scope and the space savings is awesome. The guy in Canada is th eonly source unless you get one someone is selling privately. Good choice.YourHuckleberry wrote:Thank you, gentlemen, for all your advice. Nikkonos is a great guy to deal with. I buy a lot of 10m stuff from him.
