148 gr wc ?
If the 148 gr wad cutter is the best bullet for the 25 yd line then why isn't it the best for the 50 yd line ? What makes it not good for 50 yds ?

Re: 148 gr wc ?
Some confusion here. I handed a fellow shooter 30 rounds Yesterday of 148gr WC and told him they were the best bullet made for his 38 special. We were shooting a Reeves match. They probably are the best bullet (lead) that you can find for the 38. Too bad they are not legal for DR. Long story short they were the best ammo he has ever fired at 50 yds. For that pistol. They work great at 50 yds.

My best X count ever at 50yds was with 148 HBWC in Colt OMM. 97-8x
I bet the OP was referring to the tipping the 148 can do.

Re: 148 gr wc ?
I didn't shoot a 97 slow fire with my 14 Sunday but I didn't do horrible. Shot 90-2x. Would have looked better if I (not the bullets fault) hadn't of thrown a 7 out of the black. My friend would have beat me if he used all 30 bullets. He was probably taking it easy on me since this was my first match since surgery. Thanks Sean.

Re: 148 gr wc ?
do you need to alter the load such as add more powder for 50 yds ?

Re: 148 gr wc ?
No. I use 2.8gr of WST for everything. By everything I mean for the Model 52 or a wheel gun. For the long and the short line. My friend asked pretty much the same thing. But I think his question was more like " will these make it out of the end of the barrel?"

I read about everyone using 158 lswc or round nose for the 50 yd, I didn't know the 148 wc was not legal for the 50 yd. Why is it not legal ?

Re: 148 gr wc ?
You're confused...
For CF, and the Harry Reeves match, you can use 148 WC ammo.
For Distinguished Revolver you MUST use 158 gr for all stages,

I think the tipping issue is a problem only with the S&W model 52.Jack H wrote:My best X count ever at 50yds was with 148 HBWC in Colt OMM. 97-8x

Actually the rules for DR say 158 semi wad cutter or round nose. Those are shapes not bullet materials.rebs wrote:Chris Miceli wrote:I don't know where you got that impressionrebs wrote:If the 148 gr wad cutter is the best bullet for the 25 yd line then why isn't it the best for the 50 yd line ? Chris, time to put your jail house lawyer hat on. Is there anything in the rules that says we have to load our 158gr LSWC with the pointy end forward? There has been a lot of discussion previously on what makes a bullet stable. I think it might be time to play with the thousands of cast bullets I have and see if I can get a load that works as good as the 148s. I know I will have to do the math to figure out how far the bullet has to protrude to keep internal space the same and avoid excessive pressure. Just day dreaming but might be fun to try.
