Weigand Mount for S&W Model 41 does not fit
I bought a Weigand mount to install on my Model 41. Unfortunately, I can't install it because the holes don't line up.
Please see the pictures
I measured the distance between the holes.
My Model 41 has 3 holes, which appear to be factory drilled and tapped (I bought the gun used) and the distance is 2 and 3/16 inches between holes 1 & 2 and holes 2 & 3.
The Weigand mount has 4 holes and I can’t line up 3 holes to install the mount on the pistol.
The closest I can come up with are two holes with the distance of 2 and ¼ inches. Thus, I can’t install the mount on the gun for which it is designed.
Now, I have some doubts about the drilled and tapped holes on my gun: Before buying the Weigand mount, I bought the Weaver mount, which also has 4 holes with the same distances as the Weigand mount. Both mounts are designed for the S&W Model 41 pistol. Both do not fit my pistol in exactly the same way.
Do I have a pistol that is drilled and tapped for some special mount?
Thanks for all the help as always,
Oleg.

Your holes are not factory
Make another hole in the base to match the barrel. Two screws properly installed are enough on a 22

Thanks, Jack. That explains it...
I am wondering then which mount might fit onto my pistol.
Regards,
Oleg.

Since you seem to have non-factory spacing, the one that will fit is the one you make fit. Not in a position to measure mine at the moment so what I said should be taken with a shaker of salt & maybe some tequila.

What Steve said. They never really made a scope mount for the older model 41's but the shape of the top strap is the same as their K and N frames. A lot of different mounts would fit if you drilled and tapped the barrel. My old 41 is drilled for a Ruger 10/22 base (Bushnell Phantom) and another set to match a weaver base that also fits pre-drilled k frames.

Thanks, folks. I guess I'll have to drill another hole in the base to match my drilled and tapped holes in the barrel. If I can anchor the base onto two holes, I should be good, like Jack said.

Mike,
Yes, the Clark barrel is definitely a nice option. However, it is much pricier than fitting the Weigand base to my pistol.

There is a thread here in the forums that made it sound like a good option for me, back when I was thinking of drilling holes in my stock barrel:

It's pricier, but a lot of people seem to like it.

Understood. It is indeed a good option. The deal I made with myself is that my current guns (M41 and my Sig 1911) are all I need to get me to Expert. Once I am there, I will figure out which additional investments I need to make into my guns.
