S&W Model 41 rear sight dovetail dimensions
Does anybody know the dimensions on the dovetail? Are there more than one design, maybe old and new? Can someone post the dimensions, even rough ones will help. I am trying to find the right Bomar sight. Maybe a picture?
Thanks for any help

Hello robert84010,
Smith and Wesson used at least five different types of rear sights for the M41, each with a different dovetail cut....which do you have?

I have a sight with a .320 bottom thickness and a .290 top width. I had no idea there were so many different versions. Do my dimensions fit one that you know of?
thanks.
thanks.

Re: S&W Model 41 rear sight dovetail dimensions
Hello robert84010,
I believe that the original Bomar rear sight used a dovetail that was 0.359" at the bottom and 0.100" deep (with a 60 degree overall taper). That being said, you may be able to have your existing dovetail re-cut but will need to check your other dimensions. For what it's worth, if you went through that process your front sight probably would not work anymore without modification due to the height. If you are missing a rear sight, it would be easier to locate the proper factory version (they actually are quite good).
