Benelli MP 95 FTE Empty Benelli MP 95 FTE

Post by tceva Thu Oct 05, 2017 4:06 pm

I have a Benelli MP 95 that is new for me this year.  For the most part it has never shot anything other than CCI SV.
Per some recommendations from the site, I jumped in and bought some Aquilla Match Pistol.  There is no doubt that
it is a superior grouping ammo in this pistol.  My problem is failure to ejects make the pistol almost unusable.  Tonight
I almost cleaned the first target,(99 I choked) then everything went down hill in a hurry.  Prior to stopping at the range tonight
the pistol was cleaned thoroughly and a bore snake pulled down the barrel.  Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Some extractors and some ammunition do not like each other without modding the extractor. Aguila has a bit more radius if I remember correctly and the extractor cannot bite into it as well as the cci ammo.
My guess......

I've had my Benelli 95 for over 20 years. It does not like Aguila ammo. Had way too many FTE & FTF. CCI SV works very well. I also found that Fiocchi 280 & 320 worked well and grouped tight. Makes sense - Italian gun & Italian ammo. With that said, you MUST keep that chamber clean. Use a .243/.25 rifle bore brush, bend it into an L shape to have a small handle and scrub the chamber out good with your favorite solvent. Don't go over 200 rounds without cleaning the chamber.

After several thousand rounds, my Benelli became unreliable with FTF & FTE. I replaced the buffer, recoil spring, hammer spring, extractor and firing pin. It works like new. Parts are at Larry's Guns.

Thanks Gents.  Both make perfect sense.  I can see where the extractor is just nicking the brass.  I'll give Larry a call in the am and get his .02.  It's a shame, there is a noticeable difference in groups.  Similar effect with Wolf Ammo, but not as bad.

I've shot a ton of Aquila pistol Match in my nelson and marvel..in order to get them to work 100% I had to go to a lighter recoil spring. The ammo is on the low side of std velocity.  Just my experience

I’ll second that, too light for my M41 Smith.  CCI and most of the Euro runs fine.

I was having a similar problem with Aguila in my Nelson conversion.

Mr. Nelson told me that Aquila sometimes did not cycle the slide, and the fix was to use a 8lb recoil spring instead of the standard 9lb.

It's totally reliable now. If I use CCI I'll put the 9 lb spring back in.

on your 41 just get some wolff springs for it.. stock is 7.5 so try a 7 or 6.5

oh yeah, the wolff 41 springs also work in Marvels or Nelsons.

Same thing happened to me, the Benelli MP95 is fairly new to me also. Stick with CCI-SV, keep the chamber super clean, and keep the recoil spring fresh.
