155 gr SWC in the 45
As I look at what folks are doing to get to lower recoil, I see a lot of 9mm loads with people going to 147 gr bullets. there are a number of mold makers producing 150-160 gr SWC bullets for the 45. has anyone tried them? I'm not looking at the long line, but indoors and shortline might be a way to go if they are decently accurate.
Any info and insight would be appreciated.
thanks much and happy new year

I and several friends have been using Dardas 160 grain bullets for a while now. 50', 25 yards, and occasionally for 50 yards.
I like 4.4 of WST with them.

Dardas 160 is a very accurate bullet in my guns including 50yds . 4.1 WST.
The felt recoil is slightly snappier than the 185’s & 200 Swaged but I like the feel. Some don’t.

I'm a fan of the 160gr Dardas too. I use 4.2gr WST. I've never tried the 150gr but I'd be interested in others expeience as well.

The Dardas 160 is pretty popular around here for indoor and the short line. The people that I know that are using it they are shooting slide mounted dots and the load is 4.3grs WST I hope this helps.

Thanks Keith, that's exactly what I'm playing with in my Clark. 4.3 WST and the Dardas 160

So I took a chacne on a 167 gr mold for NOE, image
Attached. This bullet shoots very well out of my wad gun. So I'm now looking to get a few more of these molds.

Rob,
I'm assuming you have to increase the powder charge a bit to get this little bullet to cycle the pistol. Is there a noticeable amount of recoil reduction over a light 200 grain load? I've tried 185's but really couldn't tell much difference.
The Springfield you re barreled for me shoots great with 3.5 BE/200 SWC both long and short line.

tested some 160s they were moving pretty fast around the 800fps range. Gots a little snap but not a big recoil push.JKR wrote:Rob,

Re: 155 gr SWC in the 45
Hi Jim, Glad to hear the gun is shooting well. I actually just switched out projectiles with no load development. I'm shooting 3.0 gr Vectan BA10 ( a decade ago, It was cheap and I was poor and bought too much). My gun cycles well with a 14 lb spring and a slide mounted holosun dot. there were a few times the last round would only dribble out of the ejection port, so I may go to a 13 or 12 lb spring, I ransom rested them over them weekend, just to see if they had accuracy potential, and they shot nearly as well as the 185 gr Zero's I use for the long line. there were a two fliers, but the casting session was not well controlled, and I suspect there is significant room for improvement in this area.JKR wrote:Rob,

There is a SIGNIFICANT difference in recoil, softer and less of it, relative to my 190 gr H&G130's I went to cast some this weekend, but some of my "new to me" type metal had zinc in it... argh...
