Illinois indoor Bullseye matches?
Are there any 50 foot indoor 900 / 1800 NRA Precision Pistol matches in northern Illinois this winter? Milan had to cancel (for good reasons) the January and February events. I might consider eastern Iowa. I'm looking at all the web sites of the places I used to shoot at 20 years ago, and none appear to hold matches any longer, just leagues. Bullseye is dying in Illinois, but I refuse to let that bother me, too much anyhow. I'd go south to Springfield, or north to the Wisconsin border. Thanks.

I don't know how far you are from Osage Iowa but you're probably not as far as I am. It's my favorite winter match. I think there are a few in Southern Wi. Beloit maybe. The Wi indoor state match was held there last year.

280 miles to Osage Iowa. Desperation might get me there? But 100 to Beloit. That's doable, thanks.

Elgin, March 17-18, State championship. Milan is still having the sectional March 24-25. Might be too far, but Marshalltown Iowa is tomorrow, Feb 4, March 4 and state championship April 7-8.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't seem to find Bullseye matches in the northern Illinois area using internet searches. How does a new shooter, or a returning shooter such as myself find these places? The NRA site, and ISRA site are of little help. For example, I searched for the Elgin match and all I found was this. http://www.elginrifleclub.org/ One page in black and white, with their logo and mailing address. No physical address. No match dates and times. I must be doing something wrong? Are you guys on a mailing list? How does a new shooter that wants to get into Bullseye find the matches?

You'll find some there, but it's kind of hit or miss.

Do a deep search (go back several months) in this section there have been discussions and the posting of a web link other than SSUSA that show matches. Somebody will chime in with the link I am sure.

Where do you live in Northern Ill? There is the Tri-County league in the Chicago area with 6 teams shooting a 20 match schedule.

Bureau County. I'd prefer to stay away from anything in or near Chicago. I don't feel comfortable anywhere near Chicago, even armed.
I found Sandy Ford range in Streator Illinois holds indoor matches, I shot there a few times 20 years ago. But, they list them as "Invitational Matches". Come to find out all you have to do is ask, and you can get invited if a space is available. I e-mailed the match director, maybe he will reply.
I wonder.... This sport is in a slump compared to what it was 20 years ago. I remember back then the older crowd saying the same thing. So this sport must be a fraction of what it was 40 years ago. Could it be, people that may be interested in trying Precision Pistol, just can't find a place to compete? I'm no wiz when it comes to the world wide web, I'll admit that, but maybe, just maybe, I'm not the only one having problems finding places to compete? The NRA web site lists 4 or 5 places total to shoot Bullseye in Illinois. There are more, I know, but to get the sport to grow, or at least keep it at the level it's at, ranges need to get match info out there, findable on search engines. Just a thought.....
Another topic, somewhat related. Can anyone offer me "words of wisdom" to convince the board of the range I belong to, that they need to hold a Bullseye league? The previous club President hated Bullseye, reason being he wasn't any good at it, so if he couldn't do it, no one could. We now have a new club President, so I would like to approach him and ask about a winter Bullseye league. Any "words of wisdom" I could say? I would volunteer to run the league. No one would have to do a thing, I'd do all the work. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you will find at most ranges the existence of a Bullseye program was tied directly to the willingness of someone to step up and run one. I think If you presented it to them that way you might be off to the races. There may be more underlying interest than he knows and the only way to find out is go for it. Good luck.
