Timer for practice
First topic message reminder :
Hello Folks,
Would you recommend a timer for practicing timed and rapid fire? I would like to be able to push a button and have a few seconds before the countdown begins. Then a tone would signify the start, and another 10 or 20 seconds later would indicate the end.
Thanks, Tom

Re: Timer for practice
When I was shooting in college we use the foam inserts and one day I walked from the rifle range all the way across the academic section of the college across a “quarter-mile” as we called it to the dorm to my room with the foam plugs still in. I wonder to this day 42 years later if I got any strange looks walking past people with these bright yellow things in my ears

Mine came today, and I followed the advice found in the Amazon reviews. Peeled the pad off its adhesive base x 4 and reapplied the new gel ones. Getting the plastic base off the muff proves nearly impossible, and this way it's a 5 minute at most swap.

Apple app link is dead. I also searched to no avail. I know Apple a year or so ago stopped allowing the gunbroker app. I am guessing they stopped allowing shooting apps at the same time? Meantime there are 101 Zombie killing apps available.

The Peltor has an NRR (Noise Reduction Rating) of 24.

The Howard Leight Impac Pro has an NRR rating of 30
https://www.honeywellsafety.com/Products/Hearing/Hearing_Protection/Impact_Pro.aspx?site=/au
Lots more information available on each of them.
When I was buying ear muffs, I wanted the highest NRR available, as that was my main concern.
Maybe another one is now available with an even better rating - I haven't looked in quite a while.
For the Range Commands, I connect a cable between my iPhone and my Impact Pro muffs; I guess Bluetooth would be even nicer.

Re: Timer for practice
I found an app that may help IOS users.
http://www.cinder.hk/ISSF_Shot_Timer/Overview.html
While it is not a strict Bullseye timer, the app offers 10 and 20 secs intervals.

Timer for practice
I use a $25 voice recorder: record / erase / record again until you get what you like. - it sits inside rear bottom of open range box lid. -- Uses speaker or cord to headset. - record two different tracks -1 timed & 1 rapid - flick of a toggle switch between T & R. ---
Mine for timed fire: - rapid same, but 10 seconds
at the range
Push start: slight delay then: "TIMED" several second delay - "RIGHT" 4-5 second delay - "LEFT" - 4-5 second delay - "LINE" - 3 second delay - "FIRE"(or buzzer) - 20 second delay -"CEASE FIRE"(or buzzer).

Although I have the timer apps on my phone, I have purchased a number of custom walnut ammo blocks that hold your ammo and have built in timers.

Pistol Shooting Timer
Hi all,
I've just come across this post relating to shooting timers and thought I'd point you all at dugongtech.com where I am advertising a pistol shooting timer running on the Garmin Fenix watches. The user guide for the watch is here dugongtech.com/operating-guide
It's not specifically targeted at Bullseye shooters as we don't shoot that in Australia but I think it could be easily adapted if there was sufficient interest.
It has a number of features that I think Bullseye shooters would find useful including Plus Mode which allows the timer to be started a number of seconds in advance of when match firing is to commence. The shooter is alerted to start and stop shooting via sound and vibration.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Regards,
Rick

Re: Timer for practice
I got the Peltor blue tooth ear muffs and cheap, unregistered Android phone and bullseye timer app running today. Worked great. I highly recommend it. I like the looping feature that allows you to repeat the exercise without handling the phone again.
Re: Timer for practice
What is the name of the app that you downloaded from Google Play Store? I've got an old HTC M8 Android phone that I can install it on. Thanks for the update.bpettet wrote:....... and bullseye timer app ....... I like the looping feature that allows you to repeat the exercise without handling the phone again.
Oops, never mind - I found it. Now I need to find "looping"...

Re: Timer for practice
When you select the course of fire (SF, DF, RF, one or two second drills, etc), you will see the looping box beside the start button.

There are several timers specific to your needs at Brownell's.
