WTB-CMM Shooting Sports Ultimate Brass Catcher
This shooting season our club's Junior Shooting Coach is moving our Junior Precision Pistol shooter up from shooting the .22 to the 45acp. We are fitting her with a new Springfield Range Officer, with an Ultradot and all of the ammunition she needs for practice and competition. However we are in need of a CMM Shooting Sports Ultimate Brass Catcher. I tried to purchase one on CMM's Web site today, but it says "out of stock," and I could not backorder. If anyone has a lead on one, new or used (used in good condition) please send me a PM. You will be helping a well-deserving young lady further her shooting career.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks for the inquiry Chris. You probably saw her when you were at our state championships last September. She is progressing nicely and is a joy to coach and she was the state marksman champion in 2016 and broke over the 2400+ mark in 2017. Our junior program supplies everything for them: match-grade guns, range-gun box, spotting scope, an unlimited supply of ammunition, even score books and clip boards, plus a stipend to attend Camp Perry. We have a great junior coach that developed a former junior shooter into a 5 time national junior and collegiate champion. What causes us to scratch our collective heads is we that have difficulty recruiting juniors, even by providing every thing needed to become a successful competitor; whereas, as an example, Mary's New Jersey Junior Program probably has 50+ junior pistol shooters. One would think that in a state like West Virginia where guns are an important part of our culture, we would literally have a waiting list of applicants--no such luck, we have to "beat the bushes' for junior recruits. Again, thanks Chris, but all she needs is a brass catcher.

Crazy isn’t it. Well luckily she is young enough to pick up brass
Pm me an address and I’ll send a catcher over. I’m taking the national champ Shue route and picking mine up off the ground

Have her shoot .32, gives her a reason to pick them up.

She's certainly not lazy, CMP College Scholarship this year, Dean's list 1st freshman semester, always helps out at matches and club activities, comes to practice in "sponge-mode,"never asks for anything but the opportunity to shoot. She did not ask for a brass catcher, we want to get her one because we will be providing factory 45acp ammunition and want to save that once-fired brass for future reloading. She wants to achieve her goals without shortcuts, competes in Service Pistol and already has a hardball 1911. That rare type of young person that you take pleasure in helping.

Not sure I understand your comment Wobbley. When I was a very young boy, I participated in a junior marksmanship program sponsored by the local National Guard unit & West Virginia Conservation Officers. I had NOTHING but the desire to learn to shoot. They furnished indoor range, guns, instruction and encouragement and CMP provided the .22 ammo. My brother and I and a couple of neighbor boys walked about 2 miles each way to the local armory on Wednesday nights to participate. I so looked forward to Wednesday night's shooting, which was the beginning of 40 years of recreational and competitive shooting that I enjoy to this day and credit this program as the catalyst of my shooting interest. Had "everything" not been furnished, I, along with my brother and many other kids could not have participated. Sometimes providing everything is the key--it depends on the kid.

Unfortunately, I understand Wobbley's comment. It's akin to having a small entrance fee which stops the disinterested. I was fortunate enough to have a high school shooting range in my JROTC program which endorsed a rifle team. That program provided all equipment and ammunition. I was even fortunate enough to have someone donate an Anschutz (1813?) rifle which was appreciated. Things were different back then and a strong work ethic along with earning money for luxuries was more typical. But, maybe some people who enjoy an activity will always be more appreciative. I wish you luck.
p.s. CMM doesn't back order their stuff and it takes checking on their web page regularly. That brass catcher appears to be their flagship product, so I expect it will be for sale before long.

Your comments & observations are well received Stan. Yep, we've seen both ends of the junior shooting program's spectrum of when an organization provides everything and some are unappreciative and do not demonstrate the commitment that Precision Pistol competition demands and/or appreciation for coaches and mentors that unselfishly give of their time and talents and beg for donations of equipment and money to begin or maintain a junior shooting program. Then, we have those fellow shooters that at a match see your junior(s) on the firing line and after the match, casually slip you a $50 or $100 dollar bill and say, "use this for your juniors" or donate equipment and ask us not to make a big deal out of it because years ago, other shooters did the same for them. When we find that rare candidate as our junior girl is, we are reenergized and know we are on the right path!

PM me a paypal address and I'll make a small donation in honor of the people here on the board who have helped me.
Your Junior has a wonderful attitude, by the sound of it. Keep up your investments in the future!

Re: WTB-CMM Shooting Sports Ultimate Brass Catcher
My comment was a remark to Brassmaster’s comment that they are having difficulty getting juniors interested evebpn after providing “everything”. When everything is free it becomes perceived as having no value. You might get more interest if there was a cost, no matter how small, to enter the program.brassmaster wrote:Wobbley wrote:Sometimes when you give everything, everything is perceived to have no value.
