A new forum feature rolling out
Hey folks, you may be getting a new email from the forum. It is a simple newsletter email listing “Popular Content” with a snippet from the first post and maybe a photo.
This email is automatically generated by our hosting service. It is kinda neat, as it draws some attention to topics you may otherwise not have clicked on. There is no advertising in it.
This is a new feature so there may be a few stumbling blocks as it rolls out. One thing I can tell you is that the admins currently have almost zero control over how the “Popular Content” newsletter is put together. We do not choose content, layout, pics, etc. On the admin side of things, there is OFF/ON button for the “Popular Content” newsletter and that is it!
I know that no matter if 9% of you love it and 90% of you don’t care either way there is always gonna be that special someone complaining about the new feature spamming up their email and dragging their scores down and throwing off their crimp size.
If you don’t like it, simply click the link at the bottom of the newsletter to “Update your email preferences”. It will send you to your email settings here on the BE forum and you can turn it off with a click. The unsubscribe button at the bottom of the email was not doing anything when I last checked.
Post up your thoughts on it, but keep in mind that we are extremely limited in what we can do on our end. The hosting service is OK on helping with technical issues, but we are small fish and they run the big pond when it comes to these type of upgrades. I can make comments and suggestions, but they may be taken with as much seriousness by Forumotion as asking McDonalds to switch to the mustard brand I prefer.

Re: A new forum feature rolling out
Thanks for explaining that. I got an e-mail already for a topic I wasn't following and wondered what that was all about. Actually had three topics in e-mail. Does not bother me. Not that I would ever actually miss a topic.

Yeah Len, this is email is a bit different than the one you get for following a topic. It will have maybe the top 5 threads and is probably grabbing the first pic it sees in the thread.
The subject of the one I received is about a 1911 sale, so that subject may change each email depending on popularity.
I just found out about this myself a few days ago and you guys know pretty much everything I do about it now. This is one of those so new "We don't have a manual, or much info, or support yet, but here it is and have a good time!"

Re: A new forum feature rolling out
Sounds like a nice addition. Will it automatically go to all members of the forum?

It should, I believe.
You may want to check your spam folder or make sure you have the box checked to opt-in for delivery in your BE forum settings.

Requested forum feature:
View Unread
Seems I do miss a lot if I don't check all forums from time to time as logging in briefly on one device and then logging in later on another I lose all the unread marks of threads that I didn't read.

That's the same as "since last visit". Not the same as "unread".john bickar wrote:Slartybartfast wrote:Requested forum feature:

Re: A new forum feature rolling out
If we’re talking about new features. When a thread has multiple pages and you open the last page, the unread marker gets switched off on other pages. Other forums using this software seem to not do this.
