Hornady 85XTP
Greetings,
Tested some Hornady 85XTP bullets in the 32 ACP yesterday. Initial groups look promising.
The only on-line data I found was from Accurate Powder website.
If anyone has a new Hornady Load Book, see if they list loads for the 85XTP for the 32ACP. If so, PM me the data so I can safely test other powders.
Cheers,
Dave

Dave,
Unfortunately the Hornady 10 manual only lists the 60gr XTP for the .32 acp; they include info on the 85gr load for the .32 long.

Same in the Seventh Edition (2007). I swear Hornady "useta" have an online database for their reloading manual. I cannot find it now.
Someday I'll figure out this Interwebs thing.
Edit: Never mind, I'm thinking of Hodgdon.

Re: Hornady 85XTP
Greetings All,
Looking at the Hornady website, they do not offer 32ACP with an 85XTP bullet.
Might be "working without a net" on this endeavor.
From Accurate Powder website...
Several factors alter my results.
They used R-P brass, I used Hornady. Their test barrel is 4", my barrel is 4.9". I cannot get the 0.940" OAL with 32ACP barrels chambered with the case mouth as head space.
Very puzzled as to why my velocities are 100 FPS higher than Accurate's numbers?
I will try some more test loads with less powder to see if I can get the velocities/pressures down to Accurate's numbers.
Might also try some Accurate #5.
All this is rather amusing as I do not even own a 32ACP.
Many thanks,
Dave

Re: Hornady 85XTP
Maybe 20% more barrel length could give you 15% more velocity?
You’d know better than I would. I don’t shoot .32ACP either; just happy to support your innovations.

Re: Hornady 85XTP
I don't shoot any .32's but that target if at 50 yards is amazing if at 25 yards is still impressive. I need a .32 like I need an additional hole in the head but it sure is fun to see the results some of the people on this forum are getting.

Re: Hornady 85XTP
Greetings,
The two targets are fired at 50 yards. While "acceptable", I do not consider them impressive.
Bear in mind, the barrel was held in a mechanical fixture for testing.
Cheers,
Dave
