Nelson Sandbagged Empty Nelson Sandbagged

Post by Tim:H11 5/3/2018, 8:54 pm

With the discussions recently about barrel liners and recrowning barrels I thought I'd show the results of some sandbag testing I did today. To be honest, my sandbag technique could use some work. But the results don't look too bad. 50 yards, 10 shots each, Nelson Custom Guns Conversion Unit stock barrel no modifications.

Looks like a possible decent group with wolf and Aguila lead. Would need to test in a solid fixture for sure . I’m not sure you can order specific lot numbers of the brand and types of ammo you tested

If you try shooting 7 consecutive 10-shot groups from sandbags, all with the same lot of .22 ammo, I’d bet your results would be remarkably similar.

You can if you go to the Eley or Lapua customer service centers. You take your firearm and they’ll let you shoot it to determine which lot(s) of ammo it likes. Eley’s test range is in Texas and Lapua’s is in Mesa AZ.

I guess that I should get the rest of the targets out of the truck and make photos of the  groups other than the Norma TAC.

Greetings,

Many thanks. I appreciate your efforts.

Posting targets certainly offers a better view of the grouping possible.

Much better than "It shoots better than I can."

Perhaps one day, you will make friends with a fellow shooter that has a Random Rest.

Cheers,

Dave

The match director at the local range here owns one. Sometime this summer I will want to get over there and test it some more. Just from sand bags though it’s good enough for me, for now using Wolf Match Target. My current practice from the start of the year has been Wolf at 50 yards and Aguila SV at 25. Just for cost sake. However we have a big regional match in three weeks and I’ll probably shoot Wolf the whole way through.
