Adding Bomar PT-53-1 Scope Bases
I’m going to be adding Bomar PT-53-1 Scope Bases to my 1911’s. I’m going to be installing Ultra Dot Match Dot II Red Dot, 30mm scopes on them. Definitely on the .45 ACP and the .38 super.
Would I need to put a lighter scope on the .22?
Mounting a scope on the slide means that the slide will have to reciprocate with the extra weight of the scope. Is there anything I need to do such as changing the recoil spring to a different size in order to handle the added weight of the scope? The scope weighs 5.1 ounces or 144.5 g.

Not familiar with the bases you mention.
Keep in mind 1911 slide mounts should slope forward 1° (other slide mounts do)- I think?

I'm going to have it done by Jon Eulette. I'm confident he will know all the angles of an installation.Russ OR wrote:That's slope down toward the muzzle 1°± - I think ?.

I'm ordering from Marvel Custom Guns per Jon's recommendation.Russ OR wrote:Not familiar with the bases you mention.

I am not sure you will be able to run a dot on the slide of the GSG. They recommend HV ammo to function properly without anything added to the rail. You might want to look at something that weighs a lot less. Or frame mount.

I've had it with frame mounts - at least affordable ones. I saw on the forum a 1911 that Jon built. I'll see how much to do that frame mount.LenV wrote:I am not sure you will be able to run a dot on the slide of the GSG. UltraDot has an HD-Micro that is a tube type. It weighs 140 grams. That's only 4.93 ounces. But it only has one Allen screw holding it's bracket on.
There is also the Ultradot L/T. It's not a tube type, and it weighs 58 grams. That's 2.04 ounces. But it has two screws at the corners holding it on.
Not being a tube type means if it rains on match day the little screen will bead up with rain and spray.
All three are in the same price area. I'll accept any wisdom on which one to put on the GSG .22.
