New spotting scope
Looking for a new spotting scope to mount in my pistol box with the angled eye piece that won’t bteak the bank. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Check EBay. Look for an older Bushnell Sentry. I've picked up a couple for around $50. Great little scope for the pistol box. Oh, they have a straight eye piece though. Still EBay is a good place to look. Lots of spotting scopes.

Re: New spotting scope
Champions Choice has two 50mm types - one that rotates and one the has a fixed mount. Both are angled eye pieces, each for just barely over $100. I am waiting for my rotating version to show up...

Do you know the brand & model from champions choice? Are you happy with the clarity at 50yds?

Re: New spotting scope
I am still waiting for it to arrive. Chuck tells me it is more than good for 50 yds. I will have mine by next Monday I believe. I can give you an honest appraisal at that time if you like.
They have two. No idea who makes them as they are branded by Champions Choice. They stand behind their products so my expectations are high. I think the rotating version is the only one worth considering bearing in mind our usage.

Re: New spotting scope
Greetings,
Spotting scopes are like tools. Always try to buy the best you can.
Good scopes retain their resale value much better than the cheap ones.
Also, you will much enjoy the clarity of a quality scope.
Look into the various KOWA scopes. At least a 60mm objective model.
As mentioned earlier, the older Bausch & Lomb and Bushnell were well made in the past.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: New spotting scope
Though it is a little on the larger side, I really like this scope and in it’s price category impossible though to beat.

Re: New spotting scope
Buy a Celestron!!! I have a small one for my box and a large one I used for rifle and on a stationary stand in my basement when practicing air pistol. You're only scoping 50 yards max, don't spend the big bucks for a spotter, the Celestron scopes are great for the money. And this comes from a guy that has bought several $1k+ rifle scopes, for ranges at 600 yards. If you need I can find the model number.

Re: New spotting scope
I purchased the Champions Choice 50mm, rotating mount spotter for $115. It is ideal for our purposes. It is a 10-30 power scope (not good at 30 power but fine at 25) that focuses within 50' for indoor matches. Plenty of definition out to 50 yds. and very light weight. Eye relief is just adequate for use with glasses. I used it at 20 power at 50 yds. and could easily see my hits on target (and those that were off...).

Re: New spotting scope
Why get such a large spotter when you don't need it!?! I have a Pentax 80mmED with a Kowa 25X LER eye-piece. For Long Range Highpower at 1000 yds.! We are shooting pistol at a max range of 50 yds.. Absolutely no need for that much weight or clarity at the short ranges we are shooting. Just more weight to carry around in your box that does nothing to improve your scores. Go small, go light.
