In some cases the reline will be better than any original.. better bore and chamber

Re: rebarrel or Reline
I would check to see if the barrel actually needs relining before doing it. Just because it is old, does not mean it has lost anything. My older Hammerlis are still easily X-ring capable as verified by Ransom Rest. Also, say you gained a 1/4”, is it going to help that much if you shoot an 8” group?
Not being argumentative, just saying make sure that you don’t fix something that ain’t broke!
If I sold you my Nelson .22 conversion, would you just have it relined because it was used?
I would hate to lose the “used” barrel that shot this group a few weeks ago with CCI SV at 50 yds.

That was from a Ransom Rest using a Nelson .22 Upper and magazine on a Dan Wesson Valor lower, with 50-pk box of CCI SV.
Not much for me to take credit for, except the photography.

Did you try 10 or 30 rounds? Is it a new Nelson Barrel?willnewton wrote:That was from a Ransom Rest using a Nelson .22 Upper and magazine on a Dan Wesson Valor lower, with 50-pk box of CCI SV.

Re: rebarrel or Reline
That Nelson was received new in the fall of last year and probably has 1000+ rounds through it. That test was from the first day of having my Ransom Rest and was the best of four 5-shot groups. None were bigger than 7/8”.
I tested another Nelson with the same setup that day and it grouped within a 1/8-1/4” of the first one depending on which groups you were comparing.
It was not very extensive or scientific testing as I was not there that day to specifically test guns. I was testing the RR setup and kept it simple with just my .22 conversions. So did not do ten shot groups or test other ammo etc. A couple of settling groups, then 4 five shot groups from each conversion just to see how consistent I was as the RR operator, as there is most definitely an art to using one.
Still, it was a heck of a group that you don’t often see with CCI, so I saved it.
