Who has tested the Sightron S30-5?
I'm hoping to hear from some people that have tried the S30-5. I'm currently using Aimpoint 9000SC's but they are a bit on the heavy side, definitely a no go on a 38 special 1911 I'm getting next year. I'm thinking of giving S30-5 a shot, I've heard the dot although advertised at 5moa actually looks closer to 2moa and has no negative magnification. What I've not heard is how they hold up long term. Also I'd prefer not to give another penny to Ultradot, I find their business practices shady.

I am one of the people that recommended it before. Nothing has changed to make me change my mind. I only have one of the S30-5 and I have been shooting other pistols lately but after about 2 years I can say it is still going strong. I have not bought another Ultradot since I found Sightron but I have bought a lot of others looking around. I have a list somewhere of what every scope weighed with different sets of rings. I also was looking for a scope for a 38 special. I have a micro on there now but it handled the weight of the Sightron no problem.

I like the S30-5. I've been using one on my 45 (slide mount) since last fall. Probably about three thousand rounds now. I just put one on a friends 45 as well. I like the small dot. I also like that I can feel the clicks when making adjustments and the adjustment scales will turn so you can set them at zero. I didn't care for the light duty rings and didn't use them although they would be fine on a 22. I recently bought a second one that will go on my #1 wad gun when it comes back from KC.

I like my S30 a lot. Unfortunatly, it is currently at Sightron's service, for the second time. The first time, the brightness knob came loose and wouldn't click in or stay in position. Imagine rapid fire and having to reach over to turn your dot back on.
This time, it just quit working. Fiddling with the battery and brightness knob would bring the dot back, but only for a round or two.
Service the first time was prompt and this time they have been curtious.
I do like the clarity and roundness of the dot. The supplied rings worked for me. Just don't overtighten or the long screws will bend. Use blue loctite.
My S30 was slide mounted on a .45. Just my experience.

Hi folks,
I just ordered an S30-5 from Optics Planet and got an extra $18 off using coupon code DIRECTBUY12. That get s me the sight for $139.99, delivered. They've only got 3 or 4 left in stock. Thought someone here might be interested.

It's only 131.99 using your code if you don't mind a few extra days wait for the free shipping option. Also, today only 12% off ANY red dots using SMRD12.

Re: Who has tested the Sightron S30-5?
My S30-5 has been fine.. I have it on my old Clark Long slide so it doesn't get used much these days but did have a year on my wad gun before.. the dot is more like a 2moa.
If memory serves Frank did have an issue later on with his and posted it here.. Something came loose and he simply tightened it back up.
for the $$ it is easily the best alternative to an UD at that price range.

There's a local guy getting into bullseye and needed a red dot for his 22. I recommended the S30-5 amd we mounted it today. I was very happy with it, felt quality built, dot was very nice (looked to be 2moa) and the included rings were actually pretty nice, I like how the base screw went into a steel stud instead of aluminum like a lot of cheap rings.

Re: Who has tested the Sightron S30-5?
I ended up sending mine back as soon as I got it. As pointed out, the dot is absolutely NOT a 5 MOA dot.
It is definitely 2 MOA like my Aimpoint and MD II.
This may be a benefit or detriment. I do not like 2 MOA dots and was expecting something at least close to a 5 MOA.
Everything else seemed fine about it, but I did not mount or use it in any way. I traded it in towards another Matchdot II.

Yeah if you're expecting 5moa you're gonna be disappointed. I like 2moa dots though. They should fix their advertising.

I have mounted a few and only shot them enough to sight in the pistols. The dot was smaller which I like. Dot also was nice and round. No negative magnification.
