Ceteris paribus, assuming all else equal, are swaged LSWCHP better than swaged hg68 lswc bullets? How do the LSWCHP compare to the vaunted Nosler 185 JHP?

thanks!

Ive shot both the LSWCHP and HG68 .....Many shooters like the 185gr LSWCHP but my gun prefer's 200gr HG68's ......not that the 200gr HG68 is a ''better bullet" but just my gun likes them better......Get ahold of MAgnus bullets you can get 250 of each for about 50.00 bucks ...Ive never shot the 185 gr JHP so I cant comment on those...

The original star lswchp's were great and shot well in most any gun, the new version from zero is good but they are not the same as the star, they have a bigger hole and a longer nose and in my tests were not as accurate as the original design. The hg68 is tried and true and in a 200 gr is accurate in most guns and easy to find good loads for. fmj 185s from nosler and zero shoot well, takes more powder to push one, 4.3-4.5 bullseye, clays or v-310 is very accurate but the also cost more.

I found through machine rest testing of various pistols at 50 yards, that with the proper powder charge the Noslers shot extremely well in every good gun. They usually tightened up a group of ten by an inch, over good swaged bullets.

I have found that the 185 gr. SWCHP in comparison to the 185 gr. SWC, has a softer felt recoil and to me seems more consistent in accuracy. I feel the softer felt recoil is because of the additional bearing surface of the SWCHP. The base is taller giving the additional bearing surface and more bearing surface must mean better accuracy?

No testing to compare the two other than from my hand in my gun the 185 gr SWCHP feels better and shoots tighter groups than the 185 gr. SWC. I only use the lead bullets for the short line.

And just for the sake of comparison I found that my 185 gr. SWCHP load (3.9 gr VV N310) has the same point of impact as my 185 gr. JHP load. (4.5 gr VV N310)

Joe-I am not an expert but I have a hunch that SWCHP bullets feel softer in recoil because the are swaged bullets and hence usually are softer than the cast bullets. I have tried many lead bullet brands and I notice that the swaged bullets-either SWC or SWCHP (45 ACP) feel softer in recoil.IMHO of course.Cheers

I have used 185 gr. SWC, 200 gr. SWC and 185 gr. SWCHP all swaged and feel that the SWCHP is softer shooting than the others. I was looking back on some old test targets that I wrote comments on along with the load data and a couple of the targets have "real soft recoil" written on them. Those are the SWCHP and one was the 200 SWC but accuracy was a problem with 3.2 gr. of powder, but it was soft!
