Finally tried a W231/.45acp load that cycled my slide, gave great accuracy and did not leave much unburned powder in the chamber. 5.0gr./185 LSWC Zero/Starline brass/Win. LP primers giving me 740fps. More than others are using but perhaps my used barrel has a lot of rounds through it.

That is the bullet I used. 5.0 gr. 231 gave me 740fps. Tried 5.2 today and it was accurate but a tad active for me. Still having some unburned powder in the chamber area but not a big deal.

FYI the loads used in that article are for jacketed bullets. Most cast bullet loads would be less. The Lyman manual shows a starting load of 4.4 gr. with a max load of 6.0 of W231 for 200 gr. cast. My load above is for 185 gr. Zero. Search the Ammunition section of this forum for W231 Loads and more will come up. Most common seems to be 4.6 gr. but for my gun that load was accurate but with LOTS of unburned powder left in the gun. I believe my barrel (purchased used) has a LOT of rounds through it.

Crimp of .465"-ish, leave less than 1/16" of shoulder exposed. I am using Starline brass but more experienced shooters than I say it does not matter.
