Zero 185 JHP -W231
Is anyone using W-231 powder behind their .45 Zero 185 JHP ? If so what's your favorite recipe?

on my list this year to try 231 again with JHP.
5.0-5.5gr is a good range to look at.
most forgotten powder we used to use years ago along with red dot

I loaded HP 38 (same as 231) for about a year. I looked back at my notes and found that I loaded it to 4.5g. The crimp was .469". The face of the case to shoulder of bullet was .920". I lost my velocity date when my computer died but I think it was around 770ft/sec.
This load cycled my gun very well. I have a range officer with a kart barrel and slide mounted matchdot II. The recoil spring is 9 lbs, and the main spring is 18 lbs.

For my lead 185 grain swc I have used 4.8 grains of HP-38, shoots well. I think I could dial it back to 4.5 grains with no problem. I know that is not the bullet your talking about but I would think you would do fine with it on the bullet your talking about.

4.2g works for me in a new Kart barrel. With the old Kart barrel that came with the pistol
I had to bump the load up to 4.8-5.0 to get it to cycle. Very accurate for me.
