TargetScan application
Note that I have no financial interest. I only think this is really cool! I think you can use it on your smartphone. I going to download it and see what it's like.

"A small investment in a digital camera set-up could make scoring quick using something like TargetScan App (https://targetshootingapp.com/)."
Following the link made made wonder if this could be scaled for bullseye. So I emailed. Here's the reply;
TargetScan supports all bullseye targets.

However, you currently cannot create a multistage sessions, so you would need to store your slow, rapid, timed targets in separate folders.
While this is good enough for training it would be nice to add full support. I do have thins on my todo list and will try to implement it in the future.
You can buy the App and get a refund if you don't like it. No questions asked.

Great app. I use it for 10 meter air pistol. It makes practice much smoother.

Several friends and I use this app(android). It is a great product. We find it better to put the target up to the window for the picture taking part of the process. I use three files to hold the targets. It would be nice to have a match stored in one file, but not an absolute necessity.
Definitely worth the cost.

I thought a lexan surface with an el-paper backlight and a document camera could make a great addition for clubs.
Had spent some thought about how a club level version of something like Target scan could work.
But my programming days are long ago and I know nothing of creating apps.

I’m curious how a video camera could come into play?

Re: TargetScan application
I used TargetScan at the range today for practice. In general, it works really well.
The one exception was a .22 timed/rapid target with one out of the black. The application was determined not to 'see' that shot and tried to mark others as a double despite repeated retakes. Different backgrounds were tried including white paper, window to the outside, a white wall and a lighted display case. I suspect the beige on those targets is too light to generate the necessary contrast.
Reusing the .22 targets for .45 worked 100%.
I look forward to stacking multiple target images and analyzing the trend(s).
Well worth the $11. (Again, I have no financial interest or affiliation with TargetScan.)

There's the software that is used by TargetVision.lablover wrote:I’m curious how a video camera could come into play?
Although while displaying video, it relies on you telling it when a shot was taken and looks for the difference from the last shot.

Somewhere on the Targetscan site or in the help it suggests using a tablet showing the whole screen as a certain colour as a back light.sbtzc wrote:I suspect the beige on those targets is too light to generate the necessary contrast.
One person I talked to used the Targetscan app on his phone and said using his tablet as a colour backlight worked.
See "Choosing the background" https://targetshootingapp.com/wiki/Scanning_targets/
https://targetshootingapp.com/scan-background/
That was the reason I though el-paper behind lexan would work well. A colour LED lightbox could be useful too.
