Hearing aids for Dillon 550/650 machines
I have found that the buzzer on my 650 powder sensor is too high pitched. I have turned it around in the housing and cut a 1" hole in the housing. Didn't help much. Steve Thone (dillonupgrades.com) helped a lot and found a suitable replacement buzzer. It's on amazon, described as "buzzer w/leads 1.5 volts, by american scientific-"cost $5.75'. Sounds pretty much like the low primer buzzer.
Just after replacing this buzzer, the low primer buzzer failed. Dillon replaced, of course. BUT!! The replacement buzzer is a new type, also very high pitched. I replaced this one as well.
High pitched hearing loss is nothing new to shooters. Especially former military shooters, who qualified w/no hearing protection other than cotton balls.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Howard

Tapped some packing foam to mine.
I forgot to add when I got into reloading many many years ago one of my mentors suggested I wear ear plugs, he had a primer tube blow and lost almost all his hearing in his right ear, safety glasses saved his eyes.

I dunno why they don’t also have an LED flasher as well.

During my first attempts at solving this problem I had a friend wire in a small "wheat germ" bulb. It has to be pretty much right in front of your eyes to be effective.
I would also mention that for best results sound-wise I have the buzzers mounted outside the housings.

Assuming that you are referring to the powder warning that dips into the case, I just watch the rod to see that the switch plunger is in the V groove on each stroke. It's already right there in front of you.

Could also make a small panel with the flashers in the panel. Label the flashers so you know which is in need of service. Mount it behind the press about eye level where you normally look.hwevers wrote:During my first attempts at solving this problem I had a friend wire in a small "wheat germ" bulb.
