Best 9mm lead mold
Thinking about casting my own bullets. What is the most accurate 115 grain mold available for casting?

Ummm.....there isn’t one....not that I’ve found. Most of the better lead bullets seem to be in the 120-130 range.

I don't cast but I buy a lot. The best 115 gr cast I've bought were from Penn. They use a H&G 68.

+1 on the Penn, shot them in my 1-32 twist 9mm with good results, got the load info. over on TargetTalk from Isabell1130, 4.1 of VVN340. She also shoots a 1-32 KKM barrel with a frame mounted dot.LenV wrote:I don't cast but I buy a lot. The best 115 gr cast I've bought were from Penn. They use a H&G 68.

Re: Best 9mm lead mold
TBH, I quit using cast bullets in 9mm. I have one mold left and that one is a Lyman 356402 121 TC bullet. Only because I have a Luger pistol and it preferred that.1911a1 wrote:My barrel is a 1:18 twist, what 120-130 gr mold do you like wobbley?

The vast majority of my 9mm shooting is casual or combat shooting/training and for that I use plated.

Re: Best 9mm lead mold
I have an extra Mihec mold in the H&G 275 design. That is the 9mm equivalent to the .45 #68. 6 cavity aluminum. The one I am using casts great bullets. I would let my extra go for a reasonable price. Send me a message through the forum if you are interested.

Re: Best 9mm lead mold
I may want to get that HenryA, I ordered some penn bullets that are the #68 mold and will see how they shoot out of my gun.

Zane has a mold for sale a 130gr SWC for 38 super. Some guys find these heavier bully’s work for them in 9.

Re: Best 9mm lead mold
I've been trying the Penn 115 gr. as a replacement for the 126 gr. Dardas in light loads for my .38 Super. I fired 20 shots using 3.0 gr. of Bullseye over sandbags at 25 yards. Eighteen shots made a hole that was 1 5/8", but two flyers opened the group up to 2 1/4". I'm sure younger eyes or a RR would have done better. BTW, this gun has a Kart barrel in it which I believe is 1 in 16". If the Penn bullet is the H&G 68, I would definitely consider this style mold if I were going to cast bullets.

Re: Best 9mm lead mold
I have heard a lot of good things about the H&G 275. I think they are a 125gr mold. I wouldn't have any problem trying some if someone was casting them for sale. I just bought some 130gr from Magnus I will be shooting this weekend in Sherwood. Looking for a short line load. It is 115gr XTP,HAP or Zero for the long line for me.HenryA wrote:I have an extra Mihec mold in the H&G 275 design. That is the 9mm equivalent to the .45 #68. 6 cavity aluminum. Re: Best 9mm lead mold
Is there a mold that is similar to the 115 grain xtp or hap? It looks like there are some hollow point molds available. It seems that might be a very accurate mold.

Hi Len
What OAL do you use with this bullet?

Re: Best 9mm lead mold
I will give you a multiple choice answer. I must have loaded the first batch at 1.035 but nothing here measured over 1.034. A lot of 1.0335. I also have a 3.8gr Bullseye load that works in my RO the way the Unique load does in my 952. I don't try to explain the difference. I will show the results and you can scratch your head trying to figure what is happening. At least I have a load for both pistols on the short line. Hope I never get them mixed...
