Vortex Venom troubleshooting
New Vortex Venom arrived Thursday. Installed it and finally got around to trying to sight it in. Of course it's Saturday and Vortex Customer Service is closed. When I turn the dot on, the dot does not project to the middle of the screen. I'm used to a Matchdot 2 where you can see the entire target through the glass, but in this case, I can only see half of the target through the glass. The elevation adjustment also seems not to be working have it cranked down all the way and it still wants to print 12" high at 10 feet. Thinking it's defective, but before I send it back want to double check since I've never used one of these before.

Sounds like something wrong. I'd exchange it.

Re: Vortex Venom troubleshooting
The dot will not project to the center of the screen based on the angle which you look through the lense. This is not any different than looking through a red dot, if you don't look straight through it the dot will not be centered. As for adjustment try a light tapping everytime you make an adjustment. This will help set the adjustment. Some sights need a little help. I have 2 of the Venom sights that I use for shooting the Rimfire Sportsman Challenge courses of fire and they work well for it since you are shooting based on speed more than accuracy, hit on steel is the same as a 10. Since the Venom is a reflex sight it may take time to get use to if you have been shooting a red dot or if you have been shooting irons only.

The dot is centered in the bottom of the screen. More than half of the target is hidden by the base of the sight. Tried the old tapping trick and it didn't work. Decided to send it back and replace with another Matchdot 2. Thanks for the reply.Allen Barnett wrote:The dot will not project to the center of the screen based on the angle which you look through the lense. It does sound like something is wrong with your Venom, but you may not want to give up on it yet. You should have someone familiar with reflex sights look at yours to make sure it’s defective.
I have Venoms on a 1911 and a Walther PPQ and like them a lot - great optic for the money and fabulous customer service, which I’ve never needed. Let us know how this turns out.

I use venoms on my Walther Q5, GP100, and a 22/45 light. Not had any issues. When looking straight on, the dot should be in the middle. If not straight on, it won’t be. As you adjust the dot,, the dot won’t move, the POI will. Not sure if this helps. Just want to make sure .

Yeah. It was definitely defective. Just swapped it out for an Ultradot II.WaterDR wrote:I use venoms on my Walther Q5, GP100, and a 22/45 light. Not had any issues.
