Need opinions on load data
So, I’ve had good luck with the 160 s242 style bullets with 4.4 gr of BE. Today I stumbled Accross this (see photo) and was thinking wow, this would be a great combo if needed to have the same charge in 2 different loads. The only rub is it’s N310 which I have but obviously I’d need to test both and see how they shoot in my gun.
How do you think 4.4 N310 compares to 4.4 of BE? Faster? Slower? I know it’s goingg to be cleaner which is a goal I seek. I’d be also interested if anyone uses this combo with any luck. Got the data from the link in Ammo to proven loads of masters.

Also, as luck would have it. I can set up my Dillon seater die with the dedicated seater plug to seat off the shoulder with the cast 160’s then just change the seater plug and it seats 185 jhp to the perfect length! I never get this lucky...lol

I use 4.4gr N310 with 160's. I don't know exactly how to compare N310 and Bullseye, but my hunch is that you can use close to the same weight. The N310 load is good in my gun, but that picture looks like something I've posted in the past, so I may not be a second opinion.

Steve, that is your post from the pet loads post awhile back. I’d love to hear any more info you may have. To me seems like a perfect world situation if one decided to shoot jhp at the long line. I’d be curious to your loader set up to accomplish this.SteveT wrote:I use 4.4gr N310 with 160's. N310 and Bullseye are very close, but N310 has a tendency to reach peak pressures per grain a little faster. This tendency is why Vhitavouri no longer publishes data for 38/wadcutters and 310. One tenth goes from standard to plus P with 310. Not so with Bullseye. So with 310 your powder measure technique has to be excellent.

For the 185gr jhp. 4.4 gr of N310 is the starting charge weight and 5.2 max. This is from the Vihtavuori web site. I don’t think I’m on the ragged edge of going too hot. Now for the 160 cast.I have no clue as I don’t see any load data for that weightWobbley wrote:N310 and Bullseye are very close, but N310 has a tendency to reach peak pressures per grain a little faster. Re: Need opinions on load data
Can I ask if this is considered a mild to mid recoil load? Or is it too hot?
Thanks

Re: Need opinions on load data
Hello,
Keeping all the other parameters constant; bullet (185 grain Nosler), crimp (0.468"), etcetera; I have found that 4.5 grains of Bullseye gave the roughly same performance/velocity as 4.2 grains of VV N310. The VV N310 load is much cleaner and has the slight edge for accuracy.
As an aside; because of its sensitivity to temperature, I no longer regularly use VV N310 (choosing CLAYS instead).

Re: Need opinions on load data
Is it me or is N310 more snappy than BE?
