Odd CCI primer
I was finishing up some reloading today when I saw this. https://imgur.com/a/XIu7SyM
I bought the CCI primers by the case.

Re: Odd CCI primer
Maybe the anvil from a fired primer fell out and on to the primer seating punch

Re: Odd CCI primer
I sent the photo to CCI.
The 6 dots are cleanly punched and evenly spaced. Not only don't they match an anvil, but I load on a single stage press, so that couldn't happen.

Re: Odd CCI primer
I would suspect that your primer skipped part of the process when they formed the cup. If you look on youtube, there used to be a video of how they make primers. May not be there anymore.Aprilian wrote:Does CCI make revolver specific ammo????
On their website, CCI just shows rimfire ammo and pest control shotshells for various centerfire pistols.

Re: Odd CCI primer
Geez you guys are tough customers. Either throw the primer away or use it for practice. Now if half the case is like that then you can worry about it.

Zane, just suppose for a second that that is the way that CCI differentiates a higher power of a primer in that diameter and height. You proposed firing it off and let the chips fall where they may. I have chosen to follow the ideas of precision and full understanding when reloading.

Re: Odd CCI primer
The pressures we use are nowhere NEAR max pressures for a 45, a mag primer won't make a difference for one shot. Like I said throw it in the trash if you're worried.

It still might be interesting to hear what CCI has to say.

Re: Odd CCI primer
I use standard CCI Small Pistol primers for .38 Spec and CCI Magnum primers for .357 Magnum and they look the same as far as this thread topic is concerned.Aprilian wrote:Zane, just suppose for a second that that is the way that CCI differentiates a higher power of a primer in that diameter and height.
