CCI SV FTF??
I bought a case of the CCI SV from Brownells last week and tried it out last night. My Marvel shoots Federal 711B well but is a bit heavy on the slide (steel) for the Norma Match. Thought the CCI might work better, but I had no less that 8 duds out of the first 30 I put thru. Figured it might be the 17# mainspring/EGW lightened hammer combo, so I tried it in my Victor and got the same results.
Anyone else getting lots of duds from CCI SV? Kind of reminds me of Olin White Box (which I still have a couple bricks of).

That lot number was manufactured on Friday February 24, 2012 lot 57 of that day. Pretty old ammo to complain about.

Since 1995 SPEER/CCI products have used lot numbers that allow you to discern their date of manufacture. These lot numbers are in the form of L##L##, where L is a letter and # is a number. The first letter is the month A thru M, January thru December, skipping I. The next two numbers are the numerical date 01 thru 31, single digit dates getting a leading zero. The second letter is the year A thru Z, skipping I and O, for 1995 thru 2018. Numbers following these appear to be a production code.
First letter/Month:
A - January
B - February
C - March
D - April
E - May
F - June
G - July
H - August
J - September
K - October

Re: CCI SV FTF??
Thus mine would be batch A09 from Apr 13, 2018. I wonder if the 3rd letter (A in this case) is the particular line the batch was run on?

Possibly. Not sure what the code will be for 2019, since they just ran out of alphabet.

Re: CCI SV FTF??
I am guessing they will either add a letter, or just start over. After all, we are talking about a 24 years span of the code.cdrt wrote:Possibly. Not sure what the code will be for 2019, since they just ran out of alphabet.

So what would the year be for E05YA02 or for L04Y202?

Oh! Does it have a shelf life?
I have ammo decades old that performs better than this lot. One half poofs, one half bangs, mixed with all bangs from other ammo.

The doorbell just rang. It was UPS and the replacement CCI.
Lot # F05ZA03. Now printed inside box flap, not embossed on box bottom.

I received a case lot# D13ZA09. Same as NukeMMC. I don't see much point in opening it up. What did you do to return it to Brownells? Call for a Return authorization number?

Called Brownells. They danced around a bit saying there were no returns on ammunition. I explained to them a reputation for not standing behind what they sold would be bad for business. Their next suggestion was to contact CCI. After talking to the first person I was handed off to a second person then was told I had to speak to a technician. They were all busy so now I am waiting for a call back.

Just got a call back from CCI. They will not do anything until I shoot 100 rounds out of this lot# case. Send them the duds. After they analyze and test the duds and discover that it is their problem then they will replace my case. What a pita. I suggested they check out the Bullseye-L but they weren't interested.

Re: CCI SV FTF??
I contacted CCI via their website. Got prompt response. They sent UPS to pick up some of the lot. They tested and found no problem. It is still a mystery why some shots were a poof, and some a bang. I had to hand cycle the empty out of the chamber each time it went poof.

Re: CCI SV FTF??
I called CCI earlier and they gave me a reference number and told me to fill out their contact form on the website. I saved 3 of the 8 duds to send back, but I am going to try a bit more before I send it. Probably do 20rds from a box from each brick. No big deal. They said there were 260,000 rds on that lot and mine was the 1st negative feedback. They said it ran a sd of 9 in QC, which is pretty good for factory ammo. That's even good for reloads!
I have 3 High Standards, the Marvel, a Ruger and a S&W Perfected and 3 different .22lr rifles I can run it thru. That should give them a reasonably decent amount of data if I continue to have issues.

Re: CCI SV FTF??
For what it's worth I went to my indoor range a little while ago and shot a 50 round box from lot#D13ZA09 and had no problems. Not very scientific but I'm not going to waste my time shooting something out of every brick. I will use this case for practice. I only shoot CCI on the short line anyway. After NukeMMC went through so many duds it's still mentally hard to use this case for a match.
