When you know you're in deep...
I just finished my second season of bullseye. Definitely enjoy it a lot. Had a great session at the range tonight. Then noticed someone shot a TON of 38 Special at some point. I must have picked up 200 pieces...
...I don't own a 38 Special...

The real question is whether you'll load 148 gr wadcutters or 158 gr SWC or RN in those empty hulls. I say go half and half!

It is a shooters disease, 4 years ago when the CMP had a super deal on cans of M1 Carbine loaded .30 cal rounds I bought 4 cans (5,400 rounds), I still don't own an M1 Carbine.Soupy44 wrote:I just finished my second season of bullseye. Re: When you know you're in deep...
Several years ago a friend came up to me at Camp Perry excited about how cheap he had just bought a case of 38 Super at the CMP. "I didn't know you had a 38 Super" said I. " I don't" said he, "but now I have a good excuse to get one!"

I had 1911 grips for a whole year before I bought the pistol. It all sounds normal to me.

Re: When you know you're in deep...
Why are you people talking about owning 'a' M1 Carbine, 'a' 1911 pistol or 'a' 38 special revolver?
I mean reloading a new caliber for just one pistol or carbine is an investment in dies, new turret,
new powder, bullets, etc... much better to spread it over 6 or 12 of them!

It must be destiny. I completely forgot I bought my 550 used and it came ready to go for 38. All that has been in the closet the last two years. Now I just need another deluxe quick change kit and the press will be good to go.
Though I just saw I now need small pistol primers...

I started casting & reloading 45 months before I had a 1911. I probably had 2000 bullets cast lol.

Re: When you know you're in deep...
back in the early 90's when the AWB was looming, a friend decided to buy magazines (hi cap) for any firearm he thought he may want in the future,
he was not sure what he wanted, but was leaning towards several, (well, more than several) and wanted to make sure he was covered,
he figured if he changed directions, the increase in value of the mags would make it worthwhile,
he ended up buying most of the firearms, then later trading off the mags he bought he did not need

I bought a new Nikon rifle scope at a gun show years ago, didn’t have a rifle to put it on, but I couldn’t pass up a good deal. I hand to go buy a new rifle immediately so I could use my new scope!

Re: When you know you're in deep...
I think, I can simplify this post for absolutely every single member of the forum, and wider audience too, by re-phrasing line said by late Robin Williams in one the movies: "I have never had ........ with that ...........! But I always wanted too!" Feel free to fill blanks.
My list would be quite long, and boring, so I'll condense it to a very short sentence: I have never had opportunity to shoot at Camp Perry, but I always wanted too. Needless to say, amount of gear purchased over the years (and amount of time spent too) on fulfilling all aspects of achieving this dream requires sizable real estate in the house. I'm lucky to have wife that tolerates all of this for so many years.

Re: When you know you're in deep...
I never counted how many pistols I had because I didn’t want an idea of how much money I had tied up in them.
After reading about Jon Shue’s unfortunate robbery, I ordered an alarm system and decided it was time to make of list them and serial numbers in case it happened to me.
When I finished, my wife asked me, “So how many pistols do you have?”
I replied, “Oh, just the one.”

You don't count pistols, you just count safes.....
But yes, keep an inventory with pictures.

Inventory, take pictures and insure. The better your security system the better the rates. Yes, someone else has a list of what you have but they also have pictures and serial numbers in case of disaster.

Years ago, I read a post on another list of a guy who had basically every model of glock (legal for him to own).
You guessed it, they all looked alike to a non-gun person and he told his wife he only owned one pistol.

After shooting a few Glocks, I’ve come to the realization that they are an abortion on toast.
Even I would question his sanity.

I only own two calibers. When my wife asks, "How did you shoot?" I'm always careful to say something like, "I shot the 45 well, but struggled with the .22".

Finding a pistol for every caliber I load? No problem. Finding a pistol for every scope I own? I'm in trouble. I need to go cold turkey on Ebay for awhile. Maybe a year or two..
