Help removing Hornady LNL AP drive hub screw
I need help from the Bullseye-L hive mind.
The tab on my Hornady LNL AP drive hub snapped off. (Part #29 on page 4 of the Hornady manual: https://press.hornady.com/assets/pcthumbs/tmp/1410991948-Lock-N-Load---AP----Press-Instructions1515698795.pdf ) I called Hornady, and they sent me a new drive hub as well as the two screws that hold it in place. (Part #35 in the same diagram, i.e., two FHCS screws at 1/4-28 X 3/8 ).
In removing the old screws, the left one came out with much difficulty using a ratchet. The right one stripped out completely. Hornady then recommended a stripped-screw removal set. I’ve now gone through three such sets. Each drill bit and remover bit is broken in half each time. My first 3/8 inch drill even smoked to the point of failure before I switched to my second, larger 1/4 inch drill.
Do I need to send the press back to Hornady to remove a single screw, or is there some trick I’m missing to get the job done? Many thanks in advance!
Here’s the screw: https://i.servimg.com/u/f49/19/94/71/64/8c1f1c10.jpg

Maybe a reverse twist drill and then a good soak with penetrating oil then try again. What a pain in the backside. https://www.amazon.com/Tools-Cobalt-64-Inch-Assortment-30520/dp/B0002NYBJG

Try one of these. They may be available at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Follow the directions. I use them for rusted Phillips screws.

Thanks, all. I've ordered some new bits and will try again when they come in. Hornady was nice enough to offer to fix it for free, but I don't really want to do that unless I have to.
