Bullseye for Tactical Shooting
I used to wonder where the targets we shoot at originated, and why they are designed the way they are. I didn't think about it much, it's just what we use. But I was still curious.
I found this YouTube video which explains the reasons behind the design, and why the black bull is the size we're shooting at. It starts out larger targets for long distance rifle shooting, and at 8:40 into the video it explains the handgun targets we're shooting at.
I'm not sure how I even found this - I was looking at/for something completely different.....

Will have to remember to come back to this post alter to watch the video.
The original Olympic and Bullseye targets were large coffin shaped things. Sillouetes, to coffins, to oblongs, to round.
Now that they're all round new shooters are unaware the round targets evolved from man-sized coffin shapes.

I don't think so. Check out this video on the LAPD pistol quals in 1936. The targets used are at about minute 6:30 or a little after. They look a lot like what we use now.lyman1903 wrote:did Bullseye start out with the 5V target like Service Rifle?

It started on the Army “L” target. https://www.ssusa.org/articles/2015/7/5/a-short-history-of-american-target-development-and-evolution/lyman1903 wrote:did Bullseye start out with the 5V target like Service Rifle?
